ning, sorting etc. and are enjoy- ing the “entry level” classes of- fered by The Ontario Cutting Horse Association.
These
classes are not only less costly, but are intended as an “introduc- tion” to cutting, offering riders a taste of what it’s like to work cat- tle and to hone their skills, with- out the same rules/regulations as in approved cutting classes. Here is a list of the OCHA
entry-level classes and their eli- gibility requirements:
MAKING THE CUT - * This class is designed to teach the rider the principles of proper placement and pressure on a cow, in order to gain and main- tain control. Skills learned here will be essential to become com- petitive in other classes

HAPPY 60th
Birthday,
Joe Leggette Friends and family cele-
brated Joe Leggette’s 60 birthday on August 23, 2022 at Joe’s farm near Colborne. The above picture
is of the “rodeo” people who attended. It was a cold, blustery day but great to visit with everyone, enjoy good food and share some laughs. Joe has been involved in rodeo most of
his life. He competed in Steer Wrestling and was the Finals Champ in Steer Wrestling in 1989 and 1990, Year End Steer Wrestling Champ in 1989 and 1990. Also in 1990 he was Finals Champion in Bulls and All Around Champion. He was a pick up man as well for many years. He now judges rodeos in Ontario.

ORCHA News On April 9 and 10, the Ontario Reined Cow
Horse Association kicked off the 2022 season with our first “Working the Flag’’ clinic. There were 8 people on Saturday followed by 8 people on Sun- day, and I’m sure everybody got their money’s worth out of this one. Instructor Brian Kelly, a very successful cutting horse trainer and NCHA judge, spent a great deal of time individually with every participant. There were reining horses, bar- rel horses and a pleasure horse, all wanting to up- grade their cattle work. Job well done, Brian! Also, thank you to Ron Stelzl for the use of his facility.
We are looking forward to our next clinic
on May 28 which will focus on working cattle, with Jess Cofell and Greg Crispin. Both pens will be in use at the same time so everybody will get lots of time on cows. And then on May 29, we will host our first show of the 2022 season. We are ex- pecting a large turnout so if possible, get your en- tries in early and enter online. While on the website (
www.orcha.ca), be sure to purchase your ORCHA membership also. We are looking for- ward to seeing everybody in 2022!
