8/ FEBRUARY 2022 THE RIDER

Pink Lloyd’s Last Race

Dave and I are blessed to own our dream farm in Orangeville, Ontario, where we take great pleasure in training, breeding and showing Quarter Horses.

Photos and Story by Ellen Schoeman

Sailing with swift, daring strides Running at them

Dave is a long-time trainer and has a keen eye for talented young horses, and matching horses to clients. We have had much success selling high quality show horses, and take great pride in watching them succeed in the show pen.

Hearts of a country beating within you Hands of a country rested upon you as you gallop

The look of kings, of eagles in your eyes, luminous –

as you rush by them, like so many times before

your red coat gleaming, running at them, running by them, like so many times before Except, this time is the last time The crowd stands in awe, captivated by your determination

Tears because you are our horse Tears because you are our great horse Marked in history along with the marvels of the past –

and the marvels to come –

a well-deserved standing ovation Hearts of a coun- try beating within you

Hands of a coun- try rested upon you, our cham- pion

“Love the animal first and the sport second”

(Pink Lloyd is a seven-time Sover- eign Award win- ner. The Kennedy Road Stakes was his 38th and final start to this cham- pion Sprinter’s amazing career. He has retired at LongRun).
