Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Presents $162,000 Check to Texas Children’s Hospital

Katy, TX – The Pin Oak Charity Horse continued its 76-year legacy of giving with the presentation of a $162,000 check to Texas Children’s Hospital this November at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus in Houston, TX. Now a multi-week horse show held

annually in March and April, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show has the distinction of becoming the first donor to Texas Children’s Hospital in 1947, providing the seed money to begin planning and building the world’s first pediatric hos- pital.

In the decades since then, the Pin

Oak Charity Horse Show has contributed nearly $7 million to the hospital, in ad- dition to making gifts to the Ronald Mc- Donald House Family Rooms and the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Al- liance.

This year’s check presentation to

Texas Children’s Hospital was made pos- sible thanks to generous sponsorship support of the 2022 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. Representatives from the Pin Oak

Charity Horse Show presented Texas Children’s Hospital with a check for $162,000 at the West Campus earlier this month. Photo courtesy of Texas Chil- dren’s Hospital “I have been affiliated with the Pin

Oak Charity Horse Show for almost 30 years,“ said Lynn Walsh, past Pin Oak Charity Horse Show president and cur- rent chair of the Pin Oak host committee. “This USEF Heritage designated horse show is one of the oldest in the country, with the show’s initial donation used to build Texas Children’s Hospital in the 1940s. Their motto then and now is, ‘Let no child be left behind!’ I am incredibly proud of the commitment of the Pin Oak equestrian community to help sick chil- dren by supporting Pin Oak!” The funds raised in 2022 complete

Pin Oak’s $500,000 commitment to the West Campus’ Legacy Tower 12th-floor Pin Oak Patient Family Playroom in the intensive care unit and allow Pin Oak to begin a new commitment to Texas Chil- dren’s breathing and exercise labs. The labs are dedicated to providing

the highest level of cardiovascular care to Texas Children’s patients, offering comprehensive exercise testing to pa- tients who have, or who are suspected to have, cardiovascular, pulmonary, meta- bolic or other forms of congenital or ac- quired pediatric disease to predict how their heart and lungs respond to exercise or other physical activities. Ocala, Fla. – Anna Marek rounded out the weekend’s international competition at the World Equestrian Center Novem- ber Dressage CDI3*, sponsored by Hampton Green Farm and Discover Dressage, with a third straight small tour victory aboard Duvel on Sunday, No- vember 20, 2022. This result caps a tremendous

Triple Triumph for Marek on Closing Day of WEC November Dressage CDI3* Sunday’s action concludes the

ing of a pirouette of any horse I ride. He’s very serious about his job. The best way I can describe him is that he’s like a professional. He’s ginormous but when he and I are together, you can’t tell how big he is because I’m so tall [6ft].” The show was particularly special

week for Marek and Cynthia Davila’s Duvel, and their 75.485% marks a new career-high score for them in the Inter- mediate I Freestyle test. Their score was bolstered by a high of 77.7% from the Canadian judge, Cara Whitham. The all- American, all-female podium was filled by Nora Batchelder, who finished sec- ond with 72.365% on Fashion Week, and Stephanie Pair-Kavitz filling third on I Crack De La Vigne (69.325%). There were unseasonably chilly

and rainy conditions in Florida for the final day of a show that offers $40,000 in prize money for the CDI classes. “This is a personal best for us, and

it feels great,” enthused Marek of the 17.3hh 14-year-old by Florencio x Met- all. “It was so cold that he had more en- ergy. He’s solid in the Prix St. Georges

and the I1 movements, so then he adds a little bit more power in the freestyle and its just that much better. He’s really trustworthy.” Duvel is unbeaten in all nine CDI small tour classes he has contested in

2022. One of his particular strengths are his canter pirouettes. “He is so easy to ride pirouettes

on,” explained Marek, who rode to a freestyle made by Karen Robinson. “Riding them in the ring is the best feel-

as Duvel’s Dutch breeder Nicole de Leeuw — who trained the horse up to Grand Prix level herself — flew in to watch him perform. Marek plans to stick with small tour for now, with a view to boosting her scores even higher before making the step up to competing at Grand Prix. Davila was not only an owner at this show: she rode her own KWPN Fayvel to a new personal best of 65.804% in the Amateur Grand Prix. She and the 12- year-old gelding by Zizi Top stepped up to CDI Grand Prix level in April 2022 and this was their third show together at this level. Eline Eckroth claimed the win-

ner’s sash in the CDI3* Intermediate II, riding Daphne, an Oldenburg mare by Diamond Stud, to 64.589%. Originally from the Netherlands, Eckroth has lived in the U.S. since 2004.
