Young Guns
By Ryan Kent. In the world of cut-
ting horses, every great champion has a humble beginning - a trainer throwing a leg over the saddle for the first time. It’s a journey that re- quires
amount of time, patience, an immense Horse
and dedication to mold a talented cutting horse. And in the show world, there are classes that highlight the skills of trainers, the talent of horses, and the dedica- tion of owners. The Ontario Cutting Association
(OCHA) has introduced
limited aged events to showcase this unique combination in the show pen. Among these events is the highly competitive 4-year-old open class, where horses with one- two years of solid train- ing compete under the guidance of experienced trainers and owners.
In this class, four
Ontario-owned horses stand out. Long Coolish Woman, a 4-year-old mare owned by the skilled rider Bailey Don- aldson, is shown by her father Troy Donaldson. Another contender, Lil Misstevieous, is owned and shown by John Mar-

join the fray. At a recent show in Ancaster, Zoe Wood- land from Ohio rode Groovin Uptown, owned by Barbara Himsel. Their pres- ence added to the excitement of the event and showcased the talent from across the border. Looking ahead, the Ancaster
Round Up in September will expand to include a 3-year-old Open/Non- Pro/Amateur classes and a 5-6-year- old Open/Non-Pro/Amateur classes. Competitors from various states and provinces such as New York, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, Ohio, and Quebec, along with the local talent from Ontario, are expected to compete. This solidifies Ontario’s position as a central hub in the National Cutting Horse Association Great Lakes circuit.
