FEATURE SERENITY IN HEALTHCARE The ICON 3D piece by WOW transforms a dental clinic into a space of calm and relaxation.

The interior design of the Dens Dental Clinic, in Cēsis, Latvia, breaks away from the traditional perception of cold, sterile dental practices. Designed by Nora Gavare from NŌR Design, the clinic redefines the patient experience, offering a warm and welcoming environment.

Inspired by the Gauja National Park, the interior design embraces an earthy colour palette, where clay and terracotta – materials deeply rooted in the region’s history – take centre stage. This connection with the land reinforces the link to the local landscape, creating an organic and soothing atmosphere aligned with the clinic’s philosophy: to promote wellbeing and confidence in every patient.

WOW Design ceramic tiles play a key role in this project, contributing to a unique character through their three- dimensional forms and rich textures. ICON, one of WOW’s signature collections, has been used to create spatial divisions that not only define areas but also generate a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.

The ICON collection, designed by Summumstudio, is a modular system of three-dimensional ceramic pieces inspired by structural concrete profiles. This brise soleil or lattice system allows for infinite geometric patterns, adding both aesthetic and functional value to the space.

At Dens Dental Clinic, ICON serves as a partition element, providing privacy without compromising the fluidity of the design. Its structure regulates light, improves ventilation, and naturally controls temperature, contributing to a more comfortable and sustainable environment.

Designer Nora Gavare said: “I am drawn to finishes that reflect a handcrafted aesthetic, with textures that add depth and authenticity. I always gravitate toward materials that stay true to their origins – natural stone must be real, not printed, and clay tiles must be made from real clay. What I love about WOW Design ceramics is their ability to capture this raw, tactile beauty, especially through their handcrafted aesthetic and subtle imperfections, which add depth and character.”

In this project, the ICON 3D clay modules become a defining feature of the space, evoking the delicacy of lace and creating a stunning interplay of light and shadow. “I played with contrasts, combining monochromatic tiles in the bathroom with 3D clay pieces that resemble delicate lace, allowing light to filter through the ICON blocks and create a dynamic interaction of texture and shadow,” said Nora.

In the bathroom, the Stripes collection by WOW Design enhances the space with its linear relief, adding texture and depth. Its monochrome finish reinforces the minimalist aesthetic, while light accentuates its three-dimensional character, harmonising with the overall design concept.

More than just a clinic, Dens is a retreat where architecture, light, and materials come together to create a spa-like atmosphere, where innovative design and premium finishes complement top-tier medical care.
