CEVISAMA 2025 SPANISH FLAIR

The Cevisama tile fair took place in Valencia this spring. Editor Sarah Robinson visited the show with Tile of Spain to report on Spanish manufacturing and the top trends of 2025.

At an international press conference held at Cevisama, Vicente Nomdedeu Lluesma, president of ASCER, the Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association, gave an industry overview for 2024, which closed on a slightly positive note in terms of production, domestic sales and employment.

Total turnover for the sector in 2024 reached €4.819bn, reflecting a moderate year-on-year drop of 0.9%, with international markets accounting for 72%, a continuation of the negative trend.

Conversely, the domestic market experienced slight growth. Exports to 186 countries amounted to €3.479bn (-2.4%), whereas domestic sales grew by 3.1%, reaching €1.34bn (provisional figures).

Europe remains the primary market for Tile of Spain, with six countries ranking among the top 10 export destinations and concentrating 51.1% of all exports (40.2% within the EU27).

GEO-PRIMALISM

This trend revisits our origins, influenced by geology and the primitive era. Ancient appearances are achieved through tiles inspired by textured natural materials. Organic designs and earthy shades reflect links with nature while texture conveys emotion and feeling.

Natucer’s Mediterránea collection has all the essence of Mediterranean life with an incomparable authenticity. A series that takes you back to the ancient stone walls and cobblestone streets of the coastal villages.

The United States leads the ranking of countries, with sales totalling €470.2m, 13.5% of total exports.

Nomdedeu reiterated the messages of the industry-wide communication campaign The Secret Ingredient, funded by the Generalitat Valenciana regional government. He said: “Choosing Spanish ceramic tiles means opting for a material that meets the highest standards, produced with respect for the environment, people, ideas, and our customers. In Europe, we incorporate a secret ingredient that sets us apart and is not immediately visible: respect.”

Following the industry data presentation, Lutzía Ortiz and Ana Benavente from the Trends Observatory of the Institute of Ceramic Technology, reviewed the latest design proposals from the Tile of Spain companies participating in CEVISAMA. They placed particular emphasis on how Spanish ceramic tiles adapt to consumer needs by offering design, versatility, and functionality.

ORGANIC ESSENCE

A new take on minimalism, this trend unites nature with modern comfort. Tiles are inspired by warm woods and natural stone while the simple designs blend sophistication and primitive beauty. Earthy colours, pale greens, whites and reddish greys are used to infuse living spaces with restful elegance. Marble effects bring a sense of calm and serenity.
