10 QUESTIONS WITH...

10 QUESTIONS WITH… LEIGH PRICE

Each issue we ask an industry professional the Tomorrow’s Tile & Stone 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Leigh Price, MD of Real Stone & Tile in Cheshire

orders that are needed on-site for jobs. Sometimes the building manager or tradesmen realise they’ve not ordered enough of something, or they’ve ordered it in the wrong size or colour so we need to get the correct items to them fast otherwise it holds up the entire job. Having a drone that could deliver them would be a life changer and save a lot of time on the road!

Q1 Q2

Q3 Q4

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

At Ashton Vernon Builders Merchants in Macclesfield, I worked in the ‘brick sales’ department.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE TILE/

STONE INDUSTRY? I worked in the brick industry for many years and when I set up on my own, I began to introduce other building-related materials which included tiles.

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY, DO YOU

MOST ADMIRE? Elon Musk: he has a goal and doesn’t stop until he’s achieved it.

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT CAR

WOULD YOU BUY? A Mercedes AMG GTC – it’s my dream convertible supercar: it’s got four-wheel steering, 550 horse power and the performance is incredible.

Q5

IF YOU COULD INVENT ONE PRODUCT TO

MAKE YOUR JOB EASIER,

WHAT WOULD IT BE? Drone deliveries. We’re constantly trying to beat the clock with last-minute

— 24 — Q7

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU

WERE GROWING UP? A footballer for Man United. I am an avid Manchester United fan and have always admired Sir Alex’s leadership skills and dedication to the game when he was the manager – he is the one who inspired me in my younger years. When I was young boy, I played football non-stop at every opportunity and even went for trials at Bury when I was 15 – but unfortunately my dream never came true.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND?

I like to play golf with the lads: it’s good exercise but also a nice way of socialising

without being at the pub, we’ve really missed it but now all the courses are open again so we’re able to polish up our swings. If I’m home and have some time out, I enjoy sim racing, it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure but when you love cars it’s the next best thing to a track day!

Q8 Q9

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH

ANY THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE WHO WOULD THEY

BE AND WHY? Will Ferrell because he’s hilarious, Ricky Gervais because I love his dry sense of humour and Donald Trump because he’s Donald Trump – I think the interaction between these three would be amazing.

IF YOU COULD VISIT ANY PLACE IN THE

WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU

GO AND WHY? I’d drive east to west coast of USA – there’s so many places I want to see there, so I could do it all in one go. I’m a keen photographer and there’s so many incredible landscapes out there particularly around Utah and then of course over to the Yosemite National Park in California. I’d love to capture all my own photos of these incredible natural wonders.

Q10

GLYNN DAVIES, SPECIFICATION

SALES MANAGER FROM JOHNSON TILES, ASKED: WHICH TILE TRENDS DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR IN THE NEXT

TWELVE MONTHS? More intricate marble designs in large format. At the moment we are seeing a huge demand for large format tiles so I think some of the leading brands will start to experiment here and expand their product offerings
