CLEANING & HYGIENE | KÄRCHER
CLEAN YOUR WAY SAFE
Kärcher explains how sound cleaning practice will not only help you make your site safer indoors and out, but can also make cleaning safer for your operators and those in close proximity to them as they clean.
It's not only the obviously dangerous locations and tasks – handling hazardous dusts, or cleaning inside factory ovens - many every day, routine tasks bring an element of risk through poor understanding or complacency.
Trips: Even the simple act of vacuuming brings with it a trip risk from trailing cables; Kärcher’s come with high visibility yellow flex and quick release kettle cord. For complete peace of mind, battery models - like the small yet mighty T 9/1 Bp tub and BV 5/1 Bp backpack vacuum
cleaners - make it easy to access all areas, providing a better clean without risk. In large areas or multi-storey buildings, the award-winning CV 60/2 RS step-on vacuum cleaner provides ergonomic superiority with excellent operator visibility and is small enough to travel between floors in a lift.
Slips: When it comes to safe, slip-free floors how you clean is vital. Mops and buckets are unhygienic and unpleasant for operators to fill and empty, and the damp floor left behind is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria as well as a slip hazard until it dries. HSE tests have demonstrated how a tiny amount of moisture can drastically increase slip potential – even on floors with low slip ratings when dry. If you’re dealing with large volumes of wet dirt and regular spills, wet and dry vacuum cleaners such as the NT 35/1 Tact are ideal. For daily upkeep, Kärcher scrubber driers can cut through contaminants, cleaning, recovering waste solution and drying in a single pass. Kärcher experts are frequently called out to advise on ‘uncleanable’ floors. Often it's a simple case of too much chemical having been used and a floor that hasn't been neutralised – chemical residue on a floor will collect and bind more dirt, making the flooring unsightly, sticky and/or slippery, and cause the floor covering to wear at a faster rate.
Harsh chemicals: Kärcher scrubber driers and hot water pressure washers can be equipped with dosing technology to precisely control the dilution of chemical from on

board the machine. Not only does this ensure minimum operator contact with the chemical, it protects against costly, potentially damaging overuse. Increasing water temperature increases cleaning effectiveness; Kärcher hot water pressure washers can tackle many tasks with either water alone or significantly reduced detergent quantities, while their Steam Cleaners and Steam Generating Vacuums deliver outstanding results entirely without chemicals.
Biological safety: From infection control in hospitals and scrupulous hygiene in catering, to contamination protection in food processing, often looking clean simply isn't enough. Kärcher steam cleaners are certified to kill 99.999% bacteria* on hard surfaces making them ideal for floors, tiles, stainless steel, chrome, kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures in hygiene-critical applications.
POOR PRACTICE: Kärcher carries out site surveys in advance of machine supply to guarantee correct machine selection, and training upon delivery to ensure operators can maximise the potential of machines for the best, most efficient results. Machines are designed to be intuitive, with colour-coded controls, easy switch dials and clear icons. Further mistake-proofing can be achieved with the Kärcher Intelligent Key (KIK) system that can lock correct machines parameters for specific operators, machines or rooms - in 19 different languages.
OPERATOR SAFETY: Designed for comfort, safety and ease of use, Kärcher machines deliver superior ergonomics. With 90% of their product portfolio under five years old, their innovations embrace the latest R&D advances to ensure cleaning is safer, and better suited to more applications than ever before.
