The clocks have finally changed, frost has begun to settle, premature Christmas adverts dominate the airwaves and the trials and tribulations of another year soon draw to a close. You’d be forgiven for thinking 2019 has thrown enough at us, that’s it’s time to nest away and get ready for the impending festivities. Not so, dear readers.
An imminent election now looms on the horizon with 12th December set as the date the country will go to the polls. Given the inexorable differences in the country, and parliament in an inescapable stasis, it does seem like the only remaining option, but it’s hard to get past that unsavoury taste it leaves in the mouth. Late last year, Britain’s manufacturers called for the current health and safety landscape to be maintained when the UK leaves the EU, with existing worker production and legislative requirements to be transferred into UK law to avoid cost and disruption to business. With an election likely to throw everything back into the mix, it will be interesting to see whether businesses get what they are asking for.
In this issue, we take a look at Gas Detection & Monitoring, with MSA Safety explaining how technology is improving the industry through a transformation in the way devices are managed. In the Hand/Arm Vibration feature, Reactec takes us through some of their findings from a study that looked into the dangers of HAVS and the benefits of using real-time monitoring. We also have a seasonal standalone feature from Bunkabin, who provides practical advice on the most common issues companies will face when temperatures fall below freezing.
Eagle-eyed readers will have noticed that our website, along with the magazine’s branding, has gone through a revamp this month. New year, new beginnings here at Tomorrow’s Health & Safety, so please do get in touch with your thoughts.
To all our readers, we wish you a relaxing – and safe – seasonal break.
