NEWS JLG LIFTPOD WINS BRONZE EDISON AWARD FOR ENGINEERING INNOVATION

JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation business and global manufacturer of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) and telehandlers, has announced that the JLG LiftPod, its world-first Quick Fold Lift product, has won bronze in the Mechanically-Augmented Labor category at the Edison Awards 2026.

The Edison Awards recognise excellence in global innovation, new product development, and design, celebrating advancements that improve how people live and work, focusing on impact and creativity. This year’s winners were announced at a gala awards ceremony in Fort Myers, Florida, USA.

JLG’s LiftPod Quick Fold Lift was recognised for its compact, innovative design which enables one-person access to low–level work at height with optimal manoeuvrability and setup. Its sleek, stylish design is suitable for facilities maintenance tasks in professional spaces. Its unique configuration may also help reduce physical strain and the risk of musculoskeletal

disorders*, supporting long-term worker wellbeing.

“With LiftPod, JLG is rethinking low–level access in modern workplaces,” said Richard Puglia, JLG Sales and Business Development Director EMEAI. “The Edison Award acknowledges LiftPod’s user-centred approach, which can help enhance safe working practices, simplify daily tasks, and support productivity in retail and commercial spaces.”

Featuring a synchronised counterbalanced folding mechanism for rapid setup and a patented gas- lift assisted drive belt drive, LiftPod is designed to deliver smooth elevation for work at heights up to 3.5 metres. An enclosed platform with secure rails and gates helps provide stable, confident working conditions, while safety lock- out features restrict operation until the unit is fully deployed. Together, features are designed to help reduce the potential for human error and support compliant working at height.

British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), through its Respiratory Protection Group, has relaunched its ‘Clean Air? Take Care!’ campaign, supported by an updated suite of online guidance designed to help employers and workers better understand the key principles of respiratory protection.

At the heart of the campaign is a new concertina leaflet, created as a practical awareness resource for employers, health and safety professionals, supervisors and RPE wearers. It provides concise guidance on the essentials of effective respiratory protection, with QR codes on every page linking readers to more detailed information, practical advice and supporting resources.

The campaign comes as work-related respiratory disease continues to be one of the UK’s most significant occupational health challenges, affecting thousands of workers each year. To help organisations reduce the risks, the leaflet covers topics including recognising invisible airborne hazards, controlling exposure through ventilation and extraction, understanding legal responsibilities, selecting suitable respiratory

protective equipment (RPE), face fit testing, user training, equipment maintenance and sourcing products from trusted suppliers.

Commenting on the relaunch, BSIF CEO John Hooker said: “We are proud to relaunch the ‘Clean Air? Take Care!’ campaign with updated emphasis on the entire area of respiratory protection making the key messages clearer and more accessible than ever. Work-related respiratory disease remains a major source of occupational ill health, and we must continue to work together to keep the risks and the controls firmly front of mind.”

He added: “A common misconception is that respiratory protection is simply a matter of handing someone a mask. Effective protection depends on much more, including selecting the right product for the hazard, ensuring it fits the wearer correctly through face fit testing, providing appropriate training, and maintaining equipment throughout its life. Just as importantly, organisations should ensure they purchase products from trusted suppliers, as substandard or unsuitable products can leave workers exposed to significant risks.”
