As noise measurement experts Pulsar Instruments celebrate their golden anniversary, the company highlights what’s driven its success.
Pulsar Instruments has been at the forefront of noise measurement technology since its inception as an engineer-led concern in 1969. We were the first company to display the sound exposure times on the same scale of a sound level meter as well as the sound pressure level. This was a revolutionary idea at the time and one that health and safety practitioners now rely on. Not only this, but we were also instrumental in the development of the IEC’s International Noise Measurement Standard.
WE ARE GOLDEN
• Our Chief Engineer, along with three other British engineers, was responsible for much of the IEC’s international noise measurement standard IEC 61672.
• We designed the world’s first Leq meter to meet this new international standard.

WE ARE INNOVATIVE: • We were the first company to display sound exposure times on the scale of the sound level meter as well as the sound pressure level – at the time a revolutionary idea.
• We pioneered the use of integrated circuitry in place of separate transistors.
• We designed the first instrument to be ‘styled’ with coloured scales and fitted it into beautiful moulded cases which is now seen as commonplace.
• We developed the world’s first true linear scaled meter.
• We produced the first instrument designed for a world market meeting the new international standards of the time.
