10 QUESTIONS WITH… SIMON PEERS

Each month we ask a flooring industry professional the Tomorrow’s Flooring 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Simon Peers,Director, Barratt & Hughes Flooring Specialist LTD.

Q3

What do you think the positives and negatives of the

flooring industry are? On the positive side is how the products and fitters are evolving. Some of the jobs we've been involved in and some of the pictures I see posted online show that the workmanship these days is amazing. In my opinion, a negative is Treadfast 102; ripping floors up that have been stuck in that stuff is a nightmare.

Q4 Q5

Q1

What was your first job? My parents had a couple of

domestic carpet shops so I basically grew up working in the industry, my mum even has a picture of me as a toddler trying to give a customer a Flotex book.

Q2

How did you get into the flooring industry?

As I said, I grew up around domestic carpets but my father wanted me to be able to work with hard flooring. I did an NVQ at Salford College and from there ended up working with one of the tutor’s sons.

If you could hire any one person to be part of your

team, who would it be and why? I’d hire Alan Partridge purely for the comedy moments.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first

thing you’d buy? I think it would have to be a round the world trip with the family. I’d take the kids to see all the things they're learning about in school.

Q7 Q8

Q9

If you could be one person for a day, who would it be and why?

I’d be James Bond for the cars, the lifestyle and the gadgets.

Where would you like to be a fly on the wall?

It would be interesting to be at Buckingham Palace on election night to see the real views the Queen has of the PM.

What would you like to see in a future issue of

Tomorrow’s Flooring? I think it’s been said before but I’d like to see more case studies but maybe from a installer’s perspective. For example, how the product is to install and any issues they come across.

Q10 Q6 56

If you could have any super power, what would it be

and why? Without a doubt it would be the remote control from the Adam Sandler film Click. However, the mute button might get worn out with my missus.

Chris Forbes, Area Sales Manager, Quadrant

Carpets asked: If you had £1 left what would you do with it? I have a little personal motto ‘all or nothing’ so I think I'd go all in at a casino try and make it grow.
