WE HAVE THIS THING WITH FLOORS

Social media is evolving and it’s time to take ‘selfeets’ with our beautiful flooring. Tomorrow’s Flooring intern, Nicole Taylor, investigates the internet sensation of Instagram account @ihavethisthingwithfloors.

Instagram has been a huge part of social media since 2010, it is an online network that lets people take pictures and videos and share them on a variety of platforms such as Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter. The app is so popular that in December 2014, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom announced that it has 300 million unique users accessing the site each month and has even overtaken Twitter, which has 284 million monthly users.

The site allows users to label their photos with hashtags, which make it easy for people to discover photos and each other through the search tool. Major hashtag trends like Throwback Thursday (#TBT), used to post old pictures, and #selfie are some of the most common. The tags mean that it’s simple to publicise your work, gain new followers and promote your business. It couldn’t be easier to

then share your photos on other platforms such as Twitter and Facebook and it has been proven that audiences are much more likely to interact with a post accompanied by an image rather than a plain status update.

Instagram account @Ihavethisthingwithfloors showcases unique incredibly inspirational floors from all over the world. People post pictures of ‘selfeet’ or selfies of their feet on unusual and beautiful flooring, the images are then re-posted from the account, which has over 275,000 followers. Users follow the account to get new ideas, whether they are moving house, updating a living space or simply just tickling their fancy with fabulous floors.

The snazzy bio of the account: “I have this thing with floors, when feet meet

nice floors make a selfeet” along with hashtag #ihavethisthingwithfloors inspires Instagram users to hunt for unusual looking pieces of ground we stand on. More than 79,000 pictures of floorcoverings, from majestic Moroccan tiling, wonderful wood panelling, and immaculately detailed designs, are featured on the page. And although many of the photos are of detailed tiled geometrics and intricate designs, there are also paint splattered screeds, woven rugs, minimalist marbles and corporate branding.

Here at Tomorrow’s Flooring we love to see your amazing installations so, if you’ve laid a floor to be proud of share it with us on Twitter by tagging us @TomoFlooring so we can retweet it and pass it on to our followers.
