CLEANING

To support the integration of our teams with the shopping centres, the training is tailor-made to ensure our people understand the specific nature of the desired guest experience at a particular site. Making use of our diverse business portfolio, this approach to developing customer services skills is led by BlackJack promotions.

Being providers of guest experience who happen to specialise in cleaning is a marked difference from the days when cleaners cleaned, and that was all they did.

A POSITIVE OUTLOOK FOR CLEANING

PROFESSIONALS It also marks a positive change in the career outlook for cleaners. It is seen by many as a last resort, a choice for people who have run out of options and who must satisfy themselves with a lifetime of cleaning for a living.

In the name of honesty, this was my view when I joined ABM. It acquired GBM services and up to that point I had built my career in distribution and logistics. I didn't know the first thing about cleaning but couldn’t have been more wrong.

When I look at my senior team, I’m proud that five of our six branch managers started out as cleaners, as did one of my general managers. All of them are managing multi-million pound business units and it’s their hands-on experience as cleaners that gives them credibility with client teams. Most importantly, they are role models for ABM employees in cleaning roles today, proving that cleaning can be the start of an interesting and varied career.

If you're not convinced, the story of our founder might help persuade you. In 1909, Morris Rosenberg started a one-man shop window cleaning business in San Francisco. Over the past 100 years, ABM has become one of the largest facilities management providers with over 100,000 employees, over 300 offices and 20 international locations.
