In each issue we ask an FM professional the Tomorrow’s FM 10 Questions, this month we spoke to Paul Djuric, CEO at Urgent Technology.
model performs better or worse than similar products, it can tell you when something is likely to break down with the use of IoT, it can tell you if an asset should be run to failure, maintained to schedule or maintained before it breaks down (predictive maintenance).

Q1
What was your first job? Working as a building site labourer with my best
mate while on my university summer breaks. Somehow, I always got tasked with some sort of destruction job which was I enjoyed immensely. I recall far too many incidents that I look back on with the benefit of age and hindsight and realise perhaps I could have been a little more safety conscious at times.

Q3 Q4 Q5
How did you get into the Facilities Management industry?
Completely by chance – having completed a Computer Science and Management degree the aim was to get into the software industry. I just so happened to join the CAFM supplier FSI (FM Solutions) Ltd where I spent eight great years, learning what was important for FMs and their clients from a technical innovation viewpoint.
Who, in any other industry, do you most admire?
Elon Musk. They say that there is a fine line between genius and insanity; I suspect Elon Musk walks very close to this line and I’m sure he must be a James Bond villain.
If money was no object, what car would you buy?
I would have to go for a road converted McLaren F1 LM. 6.1L BMW V12 (the best engine ever created), 3 seats, Le Mans racing pedigree, perfection!
How would you improve the Facilities Management industry?

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A racing driver
If you could have a super power for a day, what would it be and why?
Teleportation! In my role I have to do quite a lot of international travel and I absolutely hate killing time around airports or waiting for connections – it’s a joyless experience.
If you could host a dinner party with any three guests, dead or alive, who
would they be and why?
Karl Pilkington, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. As much as I want to put deeply intellectual guests on my list, ultimately, I would just want to have a bit of a laugh. Life is too short to be too serious all the time.
Q9
What do you think is the future of the Facilities Management industry?
Big Data will make FMs more efficient, save money, provide a better service to the users of the facilities and ensure that you remain compliant. The Internet of Things (IoT) has been hyped and has been around for quite some time already but under a different label, but we will hopefully start to see some interesting benefits to the use of this technology with the reduction in sensor prices.

Ceri Henfrey, Head of Operations at Moneypenny: How do
you utilise your office space to help drive
employee engagement? We are a small team, but we moved to a larger open plan office a couple of years ago where everyone (including myself) worked in the same area and are grouped into various operational teams. This has encouraged better communication between our employees, breaks down perceived barriers and makes everyone feel part of one team. We also have a nice mix of meeting rooms and breakout areas where people can conduct meetings or relax.
