and thus their impact is still limited. We still don’t know what our assets are doing once commissioned, even with complex BMS involved (where, most of the time, a fault signal is the best feedback we can hope for).
It seems that until all building services are fully online, all of the time, providing not just detailed indoor environment data but specific performance information (allowing both engineers and manufacturers to match the operation with actual impact), we will be stuck in the dark ages of no feedback modelling and best guesses.
Real-time Monitoring and Performance Data with
Natural Ventilation A number of initiatives have been tried in an effort to close the performance gap in the energy use of buildings. Soft landings was one of them, performance-based contracts are another. All had limited adoption
Cloudfm appoints Group
Operations Director Cloudfm has announced the appointment of John Cotton as Group Operations Director.
John joined the tech-led FM provider from lighting contractor Weblight in 2016, and has since played a leading role in developing processes which support Cloudfm’s ongoing growth. Having worked with some of the UK’s largest and most successful brands, John will add to the formidable range of expertise already present on the Cloudfm board.
As Group Operations Director, John will take overall responsibility for the Shared Services and Integrated Services divisions of the business, managing both Cloudfm’s in-house engineering teams, and the specialist contractor network.

How refreshing then that Ventive, a manufacturer of Natural Ventilation with Heat Recovery (or PVHR) and now also comfort cooling, is bringing all of their systems online, with 24/7 monitoring and easily accessible, cloud-based performance analysis.
Ventive pioneered PVHR (Passive Ventilation with Heat Recovery) and has been helping Architects and M&E Consultants achieve Part L compliance or higher BREEAM while reducing project cost as well as the design and thermal modelling burden. At Ecobuild 2018, Ventive launched four products. So what’s new?
Commenting on his appointment, John said: “I’m delighted to be joining the board at Cloudfm. The company is at an exciting stage in its growth, and I’m looking forward to helping drive its ongoing success.
“Cloudfm shows there’s a better way to do facilities management. With such a dedicated and talented team, we’re well-placed to lead genuine positive change in the industry,” John continued.
Jeff Dewing, CEO of Cloudfm, commented: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming John to the Cloudfm board. John has been an invaluable part of our team over the last two years, and he embodies the strong values and high-performing culture we have here.
“His outstanding skillset in building and developing teams complements our industry-leading training
• Pure Natural Ventilation, not just with Heat Recovery function but also with Comfort Cooling.
• Not only as a stack but also as façade integrated systems, without encroaching into the interior (anyone who ever dealt with boxy hybrid systems will appreciate a healthy dose of minimalism as well as added capabilities like comfort provision, all year round).
• The single façade system tasked to compete with a range of hybrids comes with an innovative heat pipe based heat exchanger recovering heat while providing 100% fresh air (something that hybrid systems never managed to master).
Just as importantly – all of the new systems are fully connected, all of the time, feeding IAQ and performance data onto the cloud where it can be viewed, analysed and used for continuous improvement of system operation (complete with remote commissioning and regular software uploads to improve operation).`
