Hello everyone and welcome the March issue of Tomorrow’s FM.
At the start of this month, we were all treated to some exciting and
potentially industry-changing news. Unveiled by BIFM Chair, Stephen Roots, the manifesto for change set out to reposition facilities management, emphasising its ability to make a real contribution to organisations’
performance. Their proposal: the Institute should change its name from British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), to the Industry of
Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) and begin the process to attaining chartered body status.
From those I have spoken to so far, this has been widely regarded as a great opportunity to adapt to what the future has in store, to modernise
the industry as a whole and take on a much more interconnected role in organisations. Whilst the application of this strategy will be the biggest challenge for the Institute, the visionary thinking behind it has the full support of this magazine.
We have an issue packed to the rafters with content this month. Our six- page preview for the Facilities Event 2018 (NEC Birmingham, 10th-12th April) provides you with all the essential information about what is sure to
be one of the many highlights of the year for FM. As part of this preview, four keynote speakers at the event give us their early thoughts on the theme of productivity in the workplace.
Ahead of the Health and Safety Event (also at NEC Birmingham, 10th-12th
April), it seems apt that we are delving into this section of the industry with a range of contributions covering working at height and accreditations for hire equipment. We are also covering CAFM & IT which has several intertwining themes with our ever-popular Design & Interiors section. To top it off, we have editorial from GOJO Industries and Tork for our Hotels & Hospitality facilities section.
Enjoy the read, and I hope to see some of you at The Facilities Event in April. Registered in England & Wales No: 06786728
