ADVERTORIAL
This Care Home Open Week
The Royal College of Nursing highlights the critical role fulfilled by care home nurses and carers.
If you’ve ever taken part in Care Home Open Week, you’ll know already that the remarkable annual celebration takes place late spring/early summer. It’s an opportunity for care homes to open their doors to the local community – where safe to do so – to demystify what happens inside and welcome future residents to visit. It can also be an ideal time to showcase the rewarding careers within the care sector. This year, Care Home Open Week takes place from 27 June to the 3 July.
At the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), we dedicate our celebrations throughout Care Home Open Week to the incredible work of care home nurses, carers and care assistants, and recognise the essential and complex care that they deliver. Where safe to do so, we’ll be joining celebrations at care homes across the UK and will be active across our social channels to promote and champion the work of our care sector members and non-members.
With a significant and growing number of RCN members working in independent health and social care settings, we continuously support care home nurses, carers and care assistants throughout their personal and professional lives.
Championing life-long learning
The RCN is committed to the professional development of the whole nursing workforce, including carers and care assistants. With access to clinical advice guides and
publications, Europe’s largest nursing library, learning tools and dedicated learning events, our members have many opportunities to further their learning and increase their skill set. Our professional networks and forums allow individuals to connect and learn from one another on topics that interest them, such as women’s health or caring for older people.
Member support services
Whether seeking advice on a workplace issue, or in a time of personal need, our members know that they are not alone. Our support services will assist with matters such as financial wellbeing, welfare, immigration and career advancement. Accredited therapists are also on hand to help members deal with challenging emotional issues whether work-related or personal.
Working with care home managers
Our priority is to help organisations in the delivery of high- quality resident care. We work closely with employers across health and social care to ensure their staff feel supported and motivated, to establish positive workplace safety cultures, to enhance employee relations and to give advice on matters such as working conditions and leadership.
Look out for us online throughout Care Home Open Week, and if you’re taking part – we hope you have a fantastic celebration!
