BLUEBIRD CARE SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE MARKS

PLATINUM JUBILEE In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on 2 June, Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire put on a typically British aſternoon tea.

The party, held at Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church, brought team members, customers, family, and friends together with around 30 Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire customers in attendance.

The Jubilee party was a huge success, with several team members donning themed outfits for the occasion, including Director of Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire, Jack Whitfield, who wore a Footman’s outfit, and accompanied one of the Bluebird Care Coordinators dressed as Her Majesty, with cake, tea, and sandwich distribution. There was lovely feeling throughout the aſternoon, with music ranging from the iconic Vera Lynn to more contemporary classics which only added to the party atmosphere and made the event extra special for everybody in attendance.

There was added cause for celebration with the party also marking one of the first times everybody connected to Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire have been able to come since the start of the pandemic.

Ms Browne, a customer of Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire, said: “I have spent the last two years pretty much in my chair at home – the only company I have

HAMPSHIRE CARE HOME

WELCOMES ANIMAL SHELTER CAT A Hampshire care home has welcomed a new resident – of the four-legged variety.

Cams Ridge in Fareham has adopted a three-year-old tomcat from a local shelter, Second Chance Cats Portsmouth.

The move was prompted by residents, many of whom are animal lovers, with reminiscing about pets one of their biggest talking points.

The home’s official pet, called Tiger, is settling in well and loves snuggling up on residents’ laps.

He also has plenty of areas to explore in the home’s spacious, secure gardens, where residents can watch his antics from the home’s windows.

had has been the wonderful Care Assistants at Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire who helped keep my spirits up during these lonely times. Today was just glorious – a chance to see some old friends and enjoy company and laughter again.”

Jack Whitfield, Director of Bluebird Care South Gloucestershire, said: “It has been such a delight to get back to one of our favourite pastimes – putting on parties for our customers. We haven't been able to do this for two years because of the pandemic, and hearing the customer's reactions, I think we should be making up for lost time with more parties than usual from now on. Tackling isolation is such an important part of improving people's wellbeing, and what better way to do it than a big get-together with lots of chatting, music, and cakes to enjoy with everybody else.”

Sabina Stan, acting manager of the 51-bed home in Charlemont Drive, Portchester, said: “Pet therapy is known to prove extremely beneficial to care home residents.

“Regular visits by furry friends help people relax, provide comfort, increase mental stimulation, encourage memories and conversations, and bring a real sense of happiness.

“We now have taken this therapy a step further and adopted an official home cat so residents can have the company of a pet every day.

“We decided that it would be nice to offer a loving home to a cat from a shelter that may not have had the best start in life.”

The home was vetted by the charity to decide which of its cats would be suitable. Several were put forward and residents chose which one they liked best from a selection of photos. They chose Tiger as he reminded many of pets they had when they were younger.

Sabina added: “He seems to have a sixth sense about where he is living. He is really gentle and empathetic with the residents.”

Second Chance has been rescuing and rehoming cats and dogs in the Portsmouth area for 20 years. It is important that its animals go to loving safe homes so onsite checks are a key part of its rehoming process.
