Arts Therapy by Chroma ABOUT THIS PRODUCT...

Chroma’s priority is working with children who have a neurological condition to help improve their life quality and that of their loved ones. Chroma’s qualified arts therapists work within special needs schools, delivering art therapy, drama therapy and music therapy to children who require emotional and social support. Young people with a neurological condition, such as a brain injury, also experience Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT). This is a specialised form of music therapy more concerned with neuroplasticity, whereby functional, cognitive and motor skills can be learnt or relearnt.

NMT techniques implemented across all settings help children to maintain or improve skills, typically speech and language, motor and cognitive skills, as well as help them to acquire functional skills.

Chroma doesn’t just address the physical needs of pupils but their emotional and social needs too. Chroma’s therapists help children and young people who are nonverbal or who have verbal communication difficulties to express and explore a wide range of emotions, thoughts, relationships and experiences through art, drama or music.

Chroma uses a range of techniques such as role-play and props, improvised playing instruments or songwriting and image making or working with clay. As children are naturally drawn to the arts these therapy services provide them with the voice they may need. This helps pupils gain a better insight into their condition, and express, explore and better manage their emotions, which allows them the opportunity to process their emotions and experiences.

The fundamental role of arts therapies is to support pupils achieve positive outcomes, including functional changes, that ultimately enables children to overcome their significant challenges and barriers to learning. Additionally, enabling children to process their feelings in a fun, creative way, leads to their enhanced mental wellbeing.

Because the majority of its management team are also practicing therapists, the company really understands what great therapy looks like and how to provide it at scale. It also knows that the economics of delivering therapy services cannot be separated from the ethics of providing those services.

Chroma is the UK’s only national provider of arts therapies services. Its therapists hold Health and Care Professions Council registration, and sit within the Allied Health Professional (AHP) legal and regulatory framework.
