AKWSafety Flooring by AKW

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT...

AKW’s range of anti-slip, safety flooring makes any bathroom or wet room a safer space to navigate, thanks to its high slip resistance rating. It has also been designed with visual contrast and texture issues in mind, making it the ideal choice for installations for those with dementia or visual impairments.

High slip-resistance rating

AKW Safety Flooring conforms to both HSE and International standards and has achieved the highest slip resistance rating for barefoot users in wet and soapy environments. In fact, its PTV (Pendulum Test Value) exceeds wet room requirement standards, providing complete peace of mind for end users. The flooring is also watertight, long-lasting with slip resistance for a minimum of 10 years, and easy to clean.

Company Profile

AKW is a UK market leader in showering, daily living and kitchen solutions for people with mobility needs. Choice, competitive pricing, and first-class customer service makes AKW the first choice for clients across the UK and abroad.

AKW works closely with Occupational Therapists and Healthcare professionals, to design and manufacture a full range of easy access showering, kitchens and mobility support products. AKW’s clients include the majority of local authorities, housing associations as well as national and regional contractors.

Ideal for users with dementia or visual impairments

AKW’s flooring comes in eight contemporary, dementia-friendly accredited colours to choose from - seven of which have achieved the highest rating (1a) following a review by the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) at the University of Stirling.

The flooring has a uniform matt surface colour with no pattern, because large speckles or patterns can be misinterpreted by those with dementia or visual impairments as pieces of dust or dirt that the person might try to pick up, increasing fall-risk. In addition, non-reflective, textured, matt flooring is best to give sensory feedback to those with visual impairments and to eliminate reflection or glare from the lighting.

Colour contrast is also important for those with visual impairment to navigate around the bathroom space. AKW’s flooring range offers a range of colourways that can be chosen for ultimate contrast, aiding depth perception, and enabling Building Regulations’ minimum 30 LRV points of colour contrast to be met.
