THE DIRTY GLASS


New research reveals pubs and bars risk losing more than half of their customers if they serve drinks in dirty glasses. Miele Professional tell us how landlords and bartenders can avoid this issue by installing effective glassware washers.


A new survey by Miele Professional has revealed that dirty glasses are such an issue for British pub and bar customers that 56% of them won’t return because of this issue. This finding means that collectively, the UK pub and bar sector is putting more than £33billion a year (based on the rough size of the market) in customer revenue at risk, through a lack of cleanliness.


On top of this, being served a drink in a dirty or smelly glass has caused 36% of customers to complain to the bar staff and 13% to refuse to pay or leave the pub or bar.


Cleanliness also affects a pub or bar’s reputation, with 17% of those surveyed having posted on social media after a negative experience, often warning friends and family not to go to the establishment in question. Pub and bar owners therefore need to respond to the importance their customers place on cleanliness.


Other big turn-offs for customers are waiting too long to be served (71%), being served in the wrong order (61%) and other customers pushing in front of them (51%).

The Miele Professional under-counter Tank dishwashers boast special features including programmes tailored to deal with specific loads and degrees of soiling from wine glasses to tableware. Adjustable spray pressures, flexible cycle times and temperatures mean all items are cleaned thoroughly but gently.


With short cycles lasting only 45-55 seconds, the Tank glass washers are able to cope with huge quantities of glassware. As well as quick cycle times, the tank dishwashers have a high capacity and are able to handle 80 baskets per hour. In addition, final rise water volumes and detergents have been optimised to make the machines as energy efficient as possible – saving businesses time and money.


With two spray arms for washing and rinsing, the new tank washer ensures excellent results. A four-fold filtration system constantly filters the water in circulation. Thanks to the hygienic, cove-cornered design of the cabinet, it is impossible for dirt to accumulate


in corners. Safety functions such as integrated spray arm and filter monitoring detect possible problems at an early stage and relay their findings to the display.

The three models can be used as free-standing units or installed below a worktop. With their reduced height of only 72.5cm, two models are designed as behind-the-counter glass washers: the 46cm wide PG 8164 with its own new basket system is perfect where space is tight. Greater capacity is offered by the PG 8165 with a width of 60cm.


The larger tank washer, the PG 8166, with a height of 82cm, is designed for all types of mixed crockery loads. New accessories including an undercarriage for baskets as well as drip trays add further value to these products.
