So, how does it work? Well the longer leg of the “J” rest between the flooring material and the wall, while the shorter leg sits on the surface of the floor. If a gap exists under the drywall big enough for the flooring to slide underneath (something that often happens when you push against it) the J shape will make it lock into place on top of the board. This provides a stable, vertical surface to push and work against. In addition, they are intuitively easy to use according to Adrian. “There’s not a lot to figure out about how to use them. You just put two on every long edge and one on every end and away you go.” Also, as Adrian explains, “Once the job is complete they’re relatively easy to remove, I can just stick my finger under there and pull them out. They’re small enough for you to just throw them in your tool bag and go onto the next job and use them again.”
While it’s designed primarily for floating floors, the J-Lock spacer can be used in other installation scenarios as well. Adrian says, “I’ve also seen them being used on glue-down products. They sit on top of the floor and don’t get down in the adhesive, which make things much easier.”
The J-Lock spacer has been patented in the US, the entire EU and Turkey, with more patents pending. Adrian is very optimistic about the future potential of his invention, “It’s my belief that J-Lock will become the industry standard within the next few years.” Consequently, we are actively looking to work with wholesale groups and distributors across all regions of the UK and Eire. As well as seeking to establish relationships directly with the large retailers. For more information please check out our website at www.

On his most recent trip to the UK, Adrian met with Steve Ramsden, a legend within the flooring industry. After he tested the product, (which he found to be superb) Steve suggested some ways in which the spacer could be improved. As a result, Adrian is already working on two ancillary products: a shoe or extension that fits over or onto the long end to more easily accommodate hardwood floors and a bespoke “shim” to be used where the walls are particularly uneven due to poor plastering.

“A professional spacer that can also be used by the “Do it Your- selfer”, this is a truly innovative product”
J-Lock spacers are made from high-density polyethylene and come in packs of twenty. They will be available in the UK from January 2019 with an expected retail price of £13.99 per pack and a wholesale margin of approximately 34 percent, making them both affordable and profitable.
Installers on both sides of the Atlantic are singing J-Locks praises, and it’s not just the professionals in America. Everyone, almost without exception, who has used or trialled the J-Lock in the UK found it to be uniquely suited to its task. James Scully, a senior fitter & installer who formerly worked for Floors & Doors in Palmers Green, North London, commended the product for its innovative design. “These spacers are a game changer,” he said, “No joke!”
