QUALITY BY ASSOCIATION

The Contract Flooring Association champions FITA as the ultimate resource for all flooring industry training needs.

The CFA is pleased to advise that the Flooring Industry Training Association (FITA) is now once again running courses at its Loughborough training centre. FITA is the CFA’s training arm and an Approved Training Organisation (ATO),

The top priority for FITA is the health and wellbeing of all instructors, delegates and visitors at the centre. Training Manager Shaun Wadsworth has gone to great lengths to ensure that the facility is COVID-secure, and all work is carried out in accordance with government guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19.

Course dates for the current quarter, September to December, can be found on the FITA website within each course type, so those interested are encouraged to visit the website to book.

FITA is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, providing courses and workshops designed to suit all levels of trainees in our industry. This ranges from total beginners getting started in the industry through to upskilling courses aimed towards seasoned professionals.

Following British Standards and current industry best practice, the courses utilise the latest products, tools and techniques. FITA believes its method of teaching gives the best opportunity both to learn new skills and to develop existing skills. Providing floorlayers with improved confidence in their ability, through learning the ‘FITA way’, can give them an edge in our highly competitive market. An investment in training is an investment in a floorlayer's business and therefore their future. FITA runs over 20 different courses ranging from one-day workshops to four-day intensive courses. On-site assessment and training with the chance to achieve an NVQ Level 2 in Floorcoverings is also available.

FITA is currently introducing three brand-new courses designed to appeal to trainees with advanced skillsets looking to increase their fitting repertoire. These are:

● Wood Sanding and Finishing – Advanced. This course is aimed at those looking to incorporate

This three-day course is aimed at experienced fitters looking to take their LVT installations to the next level.

● Carpet Fitting – Design Floors – Advanced. For those looking to incorporate bespoke designs into their carpet installations. Learn how to add inset borders successfully, as well as motifs and designs into flat areas and stairs. This three-day course is a must for any carpet installer interested in being able to stand out from the crowd.

The Contract Flooring Association is the UK’s leading trade association for the contract flooring industry, promoting quality, expertise, training, safety and professionalism. It publishes training opportunities and promotes access to a wide range of training courses and qualifications through the annually updated CFA Training Guide.

CFA Council members were instrumental in developing the new Floorcovering Apprenticeship Standard through a trailblazer committee backed by CITB. This standard is now ready for delivery and replaces the previous Framework Apprenticeship. Each year CFA holds the Flooring Apprentice of the Year competition to highlight and reward achievements by apprentices in the sector. The CFA is committed to training through direct support and guidance. It aims to meet the future skills and labour gap by developing a strategy for multiple entry points into training within contract flooring and improving recruitment methods.
