MIX AND MATCH Carpet tiles and LVT from Forbo Flooring Systems have

been used to create original patterns and contemporary designs for a global tech company.

Design and Build firm, Oktra, recently specified a mix of Forbo Flooring Systems’ Tessera carpet tiles and Allura Flex Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) for the refurbishment of Zebra Technologies’ new office space. From retro Tetris style patterns to classic, yet contemporary chevron designs, the creativity of the floor scheme led the project to being commended in the Fly Forbo 2016/17 competition.

Zebra Technologies’ new office space was designed to be an extension of its existing building and will become a showroom to feature its technologies and provide space for meetings.

“Bespoke designs can be created cost effectively.”

Chere Falconer, senior designer at Oktra, said: “Having used Forbo’s floorcoverings on many projects before, I was familiar with the products quality, availability and the capability to mix and match them together – which is why we specified the products within Zebra Technologies’ main building. As such, when it came to refurbishing its extension, we wanted the flooring to match the main building, to not only create a symbiosis between the two spaces, but to keep the maintenance programme simple.

“For the reception area, which also included the installation of a bar, we decided to highlight the bar space by creating a modern take on the traditional chevron flooring design, using Allura Flex 0.55 in the Charcoal Solid Oak colourway. The dark hue of the flooring complemented the marble worktops and splash backs, as well as the rose gold and black lighting fixtures.”

trend for nature-inspired interiors to a new level. The loose lay format also means that the bespoke designs can be created cost effectively, as it is quick and easy to fit. Moreover the range is coated with a PUR Pearl finish, which ensures low lifecycle costs and easy cleaning.

Chere continued: “Within the main office space, we installed a mixture of Forbo’s Tessera Layout, Inline and Synergy Hybrid carpet tiles in a Tetris style design using an array of teal and blue shades. The carpet tiles added a sense of warmth and comfort to the space, while also being durable enough to cope with the amount of traffic flowing in and out of the office. In the breakout areas, we moved away from a textile floorcovering and installed Allura Flex 0.55 LVT in the Weathered Oak colourway, as food and drink would be consumed in these areas and as such, a hardwearing product was required.

“By installing various floorcoverings throughout the building, it has enabled us to differentiate spaces, as well as ensuring that each of the areas is equipped with a suitable flooring solution to suit the individual needs.”

Forbo’s Tessera carpet tiles are renowned for their aesthetic styling and outstanding performance, even in the most demanding heavy traffic environments. What’s more, they have been designed to be installed alongside its Allura Flex ranges, using the same tackifier and without the need for transition strips, enabling the creation of a quick and easy integrated flooring scheme – ideal for renovation projects, like Zebra Technologies.

Paul Griffin, EMEA/APAC Real Estate & Facilities Regional Lead at Zebra Technologies, commented: “We have used Forbo’s floorcoverings on a couple of our recent refits in the UK and we have been very impressed by the quality of the products. They are also very easy to maintain and so aid our regular cleaning regime.”
