F. Ball has supplied a range of floor preparation products that enabled contractors to complete a bespoke flooring installation within a tight deadline.
A range of high-performance floor preparation products from F. Ball have been used in the refurbishment of Southborough High School in Surbiton, Surrey. F. Ball’s Green Bag levelling compound and Stycco Flex flexible tube adhesive were used to create a professional, lasting finish for the main corridor of the school. By using professionally designed, high- performance products from F. Ball, contractors were able to complete the installation of new floorcoverings within the timescale allowed leading up to the start of term.
Flooring contractors from Carpetwise Contracts were contracted by the school to refurbish the building’s central corridor and adjoining staircases as the existing floorcoverings were beginning to peel away from the subfloor. The new installation, which is part of a large refurbishment project at the school, required the raising and levelling of the main corridor.
After priming the subfloor using F. Ball’s P131 Acrylic primer, contractors applied the company’s Stopgap Green Bag levelling compound at a thickness of 3-5mm in order to create an even, smooth surface. Stopgap Green Bag is a general-purpose, low-odour, fast setting levelling compounds with excellent self- smoothing properties. Delivering high performance, it is designed for use in light to heavy-duty applications, making it suitable for use in high traffic areas such as schools or hospitals.
Once the subfloor was raised and levelled, contractors installed bespoke Polyflor Vinyl floorcoverings using F. Ball’s Styccobond F44 solvent-free acrylic adhesive, which has been purpose designed for adhering resilient floorcoverings.
Contractors then used F. Ball’s rapid- curing, flexible tube adhesive, Stycco Flex, to fix new stair nosings to the refurbished staircases. The highly versatile adhesive is known for its ability to bond almost any material found in the flooring and construction industries. The high strength

build-up and fast curing time means it can secure stair nosings and trims, without the need for mechanical fixings, in as little as 60 minutes.
