EDITOR’S VOICE
Hello and welcome to the August issue of Tomorrow’s Contract Floors.
After more than 18 months of covid restrictions, the country has started to open up with what was hailed as ‘Freedom Day’ on 19 July. Unfortunately, though, the big day was marred by surges in Covid-19 cases and shortages across the retail sector apparently brought about by ‘pingdemic chaos’.
Despite this, there is still a lot to be positive about. The arts and entertainment sector can finally open their doors so we can enjoy theatre and music performances once again – albeit with a much firmer focus on cleanliness. On page 13 of our news section, we hear from Chris Porter at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on the crucial role taken by Truvox International’s Multiwash floor cleaning machine in preparing for reopening and maintaining cleaning and hygiene standards.
An industry that has undoubtedly been hit the hardest during the pandemic and where the most stringent of hygiene is paramount is, of course, the care sector. When installing floorcoverings in residential homes, it’s important to select safe products or even ones that can help with infection control. It’s also a good idea to minimise the time that residents are required to remain inside or outside of their accommodation. With this in mind, F. Ball advises contractors on how to mitigate health and safety concerns when installing floorcoverings in care settings. Also in our care focus, Shaz Hawkins at Tarkett discusses how to design dementia-friendly interiors.

Elsewhere in the issue, we shine the spotlight on Wood & Laminate installations as well as Subfloor Preparation. Plus, we look forward to the welcome return of The Flooring Show in September with a preview of what to expect at the must-attend event.
