SUBSEA TECHNOLOGY

MINI ROV TO REDUCE SUBSEA INSPECTION COSTS I

nnovative service company, MCS, has launched a new mini remotely operated vehicle

(ROV) to reduce cost in subsea inspection and 3D metrology. The MiniSpector, which has

been developed to be launched from a platform, reduces the reliance on additional vessels and equipment saving customers’ money.

CEO of MCS, Wael Bakr, says:

“The MiniSpector has been designed to be easily carried and deployed and contains built-in 3D photo realistic cloud (PRC) technology for precise 3D measurement. The PRC system is another key product in the MCS portfolio of technology.” Bakr says that, “The system

provides measurements subsea, up to fabrication accuracy, which makes it an ideal and accurate

subsea metrology drone to improve overall project efficiency, duration and quality particularly in deepwater measurements.

“Example tasks the MiniSpector

can deliver seamlessly include HD general visual inspection (GVI) and close video inspection (CVI), spool metrology, platform approaches and riser installation. “With seven horizontal and vertical thrusters the MiniSpector provides

full control, increased vehicle manoeuvrability, stability, and payload capabilities to withstand higher currents than some other mini ROVs on the market.” Bakr also adds that, “Multi-

skilling our inspection engineers to fly the MiniSpector also allows us to reduce offshore crew.” Bakr describes the new

system as forming part of an evolution of technologies towards

a transformational programme at MCS. The service company aims to fully support remote digitisation, automation and machine learning as well as the efficient data management, data gathering and evaluation of inspection asset integrity programmes. l
