I
n line with the ongoing trend towards electrifi cation in the transport sector, more and more bus manufacturers are
looking to make the switch to electric drivetrains in order to make their vehicles cleaner, greener and more cost-eff ective. Equipmake, a UK-based electric drivetrain engineering specialist, has recently introduced the latest generation of its state-of-the-art electric drivetrain.

Off -highway hybrid system
Equipmake’s e-powertrain technology will be leveraged as part of a project to develop a ‘multi-fuel drop-in’ lower carbon hybrid power unit as an alternative to existing diesel powertrains. Working with Perkins Engines Company on the new off -highway hybrid system demonstration project, Equipmake will develop a bespoke, heavy-duty hybrid electric system, featuring its high torque density electric motor and inverter
technologies, and establish initial production capability. The system will be capable of running on multiple lower carbon intensity fuels such as bio-methanol, eFuels or zero- carbon fuels such as hydrogen. The development of the
system is expected to take 42 months, after which a wide range of specialist OEMs will be able to accelerate their transition to lower carbon fuels and electrifi cation in the off - highway sector.
