Designing better with
cobots A
new series of
collaborative robots has been launched by robotics
manufacturer Dobot, alongside
a new smart camera enabling a variety of vision-based automation scenarios. The new CRA cobot series incorporates high performance harmonic drive reducers and electromagnetic brakes, in addition to updated software with a redesigned user interface. Compared to its predecessor, the CRA Series has signifi cant performance boost, and is more effi cient, safer and easier to use. Meanwhile, the CRV500 Smart Camera leverages Dobot’s self-developed 2.5D spatial compensation technology, allowing equipped robots to grab tilted or inclined objects with higher precision.
NEW ARCHITECTURE FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE At its core, the CRA Series aims to enable even the most demanding users to accelerate their transition to automated solutions to increase their production gains. To start, the cobots are designed to be more effi cient, featuring self- developed highly integrated joints with a high performance harmonic drive reducer to improve cycle time by 25%.
The main features of the CRA Series
Meanwhile, an optimised precision
control algorithm greatly reduces vibrations. During complex motion, the cobots have up to 0.02mm repeatability and 0.2-0.4mm trajectory accuracy. The CRA Series has also been designed to be safer, with electromagnetic brakes that auto-engage in 10ms at power outage to restrict robotic arm falls less than 1mm, eff ectively preventing the end tool from dropping. Alongside this, the CRA Series has built-in virtual boundaries, real-time payload detection and other safety features to ensure the safety of nearby workers. Meanwhile, the brand new operating
software is more user-friendly to operate, supporting graphical programming, scripting and drag- to-teach for trajectory replay. The software is multi-platform and works with personal computers, tablets and smartphones. The cobots are more reliable, featuring a control box that is 25% smaller and that comes with optional IP54 protection, making
The newly launched CRV500 Smart Camera
it capable of withstanding harsh environments to help lower maintenance costs.
GRABBING WITH SELF- DEVELOPED ALGORITHM The newly launched CRV500 Smart Camera features Dobot’s self-developed 2.5D spatial compensation technology and can be used with the fi rm’s CRA and CR Series of cobots. The camera enables the accurate identifi cation of an object’s horizontal angle and inclination for accurate grabbing. The smart camera can be set up using
Dobot’s collaborative robot control software without further development for quick and easy deployment. The new CRA Series is made up of
seven models with 3kg, 5kg, 7kg, 10kg, 12kg, 16kg and 20kg payloads, and working radius from 620-1,700mm. The cobots are suited to a variety of industries, including consumer electronics, semiconductors, automotive, renewable energy, metal processing, logistics, healthcare and more. The cobots are also capable of dozens of high precision applications such as pick and place, sorting, screwdriving, inspection, gluing, welding, transportation, polishing, and palletising.
