David Lowry, Royal Holloway University of London, Reader in Stable Isotopes and Greenhouse Gases, UK


Reader in Stable Isotopes and Greenhouse Gases at Royal Holloway, University of London and Director of the Greenhouse Gas Laboratory in the Department of Earth Sciences. Set up the laboratory in the mid- 1990s, starting with GHG measurements from an air inlet above the building and the development of isotopic techniques for measurement of methane (all of which continue to this day). Focussed on setting up remote site greenhouse gas measurements from 2008-2012 and mobile measurement of methane since 2012. Lead investigator on the 2023-2026 NERC MOMENTUM project (Mobile Observations and Quantification of Methane Emissions to inform National Targeting, Upscaling and Mitigation)


Violeta Bescos, Metrology and Innovation Center of Enagas, Innovation Engineer, Spain


Violeta Bescos is an Innovation Engineer in the Metrology and Innovation Center of Enagas, Spain’s gas Transmission System Operator. Specialized in methane and hydrogen emissions, her work focuses on sustainable energy solutions and advanced technologies. She actively contributes to initiatives that drive innovation and reduce the environmental impact of gas infrastructure. With deep technical expertise and a strong commitment to clean energy, she has played a key role in projects aimed at quantifying and mitigating emissions, supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.


Alba Lorente, Environmental Defense Fund Europe, Atmospheric Scientist, Europe


Alba is an atmospheric scientist working in the Office of the Chief Scientist as part of the Environmental Defense Fund Europe team. Her current research focuses on measuring and quantifying methane from the oil and gas sector and how that translates into a robust measuring, reporting and verification (MRV) framework. Alba works with the MethaneSAT team at Environmental Defense Fund to turn satellite measurements into actionable data. Before joining Environmental Defense Fund, Alba was a scientist at SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research, as part of the TROPOMI satellite team. She holds a B.Sc. in applied physics from the University of Granada, a M.Sc. in meteorology from the University of Barcelona and a Ph.D in environmental physics from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, where she did research estimating nitrogen oxides emissions from cities using satellites.


Cristina Lopez, Methane emissions (NaTran R&I), R&D Project Manager, France


With more than 5 years of experience in the Methane emissions Reduction field, Cristina Lopez currently pilots the gas detection activity in NaTran R&I (formerly GRTgaz, main TSO in France). She has experience in laboratory tests (sensor evaluation), field campaigns (source level & site level), and technical studies (LCA, emission reduction) among others. She is currently involved in several international groups such as GERG, where she participates in the proposal and production of several projects, and she has worked in collaboration with GTI Energy (USA). Additionally, she delivers workshops during international conferences (Methane Mitigation Summit Europe, IGRC, CH4 connections among others).


All these achievements gave her the recognition of “gas emissions specialist” within the group.


She is an energy engineer by the Technical University of Madrid, and she holds a Master research degree by Mines Paristech.
