20 Making the pen mightier than the microbe

In the pharmaceutical and hygienic manufacturing sectors, foreign bodies are one of any professional’s worst nightmares when it comes to maintaining a hygienic and risk-management production area. And with manufacturing standards placing ever-more emphasis on minimising all types of foreign-body contamination, hygiene managers need to look at every way possible to reduce non-conformances.

Whilst frequently overlooked, the humble pen can be a significant cause of contamination in any hygienic environment. How many times do you see a colleague chewing the end of a biro, sticking it behind their ear, dropping it on the floor and leaving it on their workstation to be used by others? Imagine the bacteria that is being picked up and shared around the work environment by that one pen.

And then consider the parts of a traditional ballpoint: the internal spring, the plastic cap, even the ink cartridge. All of these small elements can easily come apart and get lost in a production or lab environment, creating a serious contamination risk. And when foreign bodies impact on hygiene, production and profitability, we have a real issue.

Teknomek’s solution to the pen-problem is the BST J800 DetectaPen® . With a high quality, unpressurised, stainless steel bodied ink cartridge and a spring free

mechanism with no detachable parts, every feature of the pen is designed with hygienic sectors in mind. The BST J800 DetectaPen®

of the product and protects against pathogenic germs and moulds. Many pens shatter easily, with plastic shards quickly disappearing into the workspace. The DetectaPen®

for laboratories has a number of benefits. Manufactured using BST’s flagship xdetect® plastic compound, the DetectaPen® is optimised for metal and x-ray detection in the helps mitigate the risk of bacterial transmission because it is made from plastic incorporating silver ion anti-bacterial additives. This technology remains active for the entire lifespan is designed not to shatter or snap, reducing the risk of foreign body contamination. All materials boast extensive approvals, adhering to the strict standards set a variety of regulatory bodies. is a simple and cost effective way to further enhance the hygienic processes in any manufacturing or laboratory environment. 62306pr@reply-direct.com Powerful and versatile overhead stirrers

Wiggens introduces the new generation overhead stirrers with WOHS-10 Pro and WOHS-15 Pro series. The units are designed to surpass the requirements of laboratories and institutions around the world with their modern technology and high quality.

The Wiggens overhead stirrers are featured with a high resolution TFT display which can show not only the current speed and torque, but also the set speed, temperature and timer settings. With turning knob and touch key, Wiggens overhead stirrers are very easy to operate. Equipped with the Keyless hand-locking chuck, it is easy to change the impellers without any tools.

The use of BLDC motors is highly beneficial to the performance of the products, in comparison to AC motors, BLDC motors are quieter, more robust and maintenance free.

The housing is made of powder-coated cast aluminium which is fairly corrosion-resisted with good heat reduction ability, which contributes to keeping the unit robust and cool in long-term applications. The USB port and the analogue connection port make all stirrers highly versatile and adaptable for different applications. They can be used as stand-alone units in the labs for scientists and students, as well as integrated in chemical reaction systems.

Wiggens can also provide various impellers, from PTFE to stainless steel with different paddle shape and shaft diameter, to meet customer different applications. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/VEX6 and ilmt.co/PL/agvr

59074pr@reply-direct.com Innovative cassette cooling press revolutionises material testing

Fontijne Presses introduces the Cassette Cooling Press, a revolutionary solution designed for industries requiring rapid cooling in material testing and high- throughput processes. This innovative press is set to be a game-changer, particularly in applications where reliable and reproducible test results are crucial.

The Cassette Cooling Press features a unique design with an automatic control system and integrated fast cooling. Unlike traditional methods involving a time-consuming hot/cold/hot process, this laboratory press ensures continuous heating of the press platens while simultaneously cooling the cassette platens, enhancing efficiency and significantly reducing energy wastage.

The operation of the press includes a fully automated cycle that begins with opening the press, placing the sample in the middle, and using a transfer unit to exchange the heated platens with the cooled cassette platens, initiating immediate cooling. Achieving remarkable cooling speeds of up to 250ºC per minute, the Cassette Cooling Press allows for swift sample removal and the introduction of the next one, saving valuable process time.

Luc Pattyn, Sales and Marketing Director at Fontijne Presses, expressed the significance of the Cassette Cooling Press, stating: “This newly developed press as part of the LabPro series reflects our dedication to providing efficient and reliable solutions to industries that demand efficiency, precision, and speed in their processes.”

The Cassette Cooling Lab Press boasts continuous heating and cooling, allowing for the elimination of energy wastage efficiently. It achieves remarkably fast cooling speeds of up to 250 degrees Celsius per minute, ensuring precise and reliable test results. The fully automated cycle involves opening the press, placing the sample, and using a transfer unit to seamlessly exchange heated platens with cooled cassette platens.

Phil Jones of Intelicare, Fontijne’s exclusive Partner in the UK and Ireland, expressed excitement about offering the Cassette Cooling Press to customers: “We are excited to be able to offer our UK and Irish customers the Cassette Cooling Press alongside Fontijne’s other excellent products.”
