Automated corrosion bath ASTM D665/NACE


A combination of innovation and customer demand incited AD Systems in developing the CB10 - an automated bath for iron corrosivity testing of fuels and lubricants in accordance with ASTM D665, NACE TM0172, ISO 7120, and other methods.


The bath was engineered to minimise operator time and run corrosion test fully unattended.


After installing a beaker with 300ml of the sample in one of the test positions and selecting the test method (standard or customized) on the touch screen, the entire procedure is fully automated: sample heating, stirring, insertion of test specimen (spindle), injection of distilled or synthetic sea water, temperature, and test time controls.


At the end of the test, the CB10 automatically lifts the test specimen and calls the operator with an audible signal to proceed with the rating.


The corrosion rating of the test specimen can be done either visually, or by using the CT10 automated corrosion rater, the ideal companion of the CB10 bath. Using a digital camera with a specific image analysing algorithm, the CT10 enables quick, accurate and objective rating according to the selected method. The combination of CB10 bath and CT10 rater provides automated and safe corrosion testing with precise and fully documented results.

The intrinsic stability (S-value) is an indication of available solvency power of petroleum product, its ability to remain asphaltenes in a colloidal dispersion. The higher the S-value, the less risk of asphaltenes precipitation from the oil.


With the SV10, the laborious test procedure is totally automated, including: toluene dilution, heptane titration, measure of the flocculation point, results calculation, and post-test cleaning. The instrument allows to run simultaneously 3 samples to deliver fast results. This user-friendly instrument requires no special expertise or operator-intervention during testing, and eliminates safety risks from handling hazardous solvents. With its unique temperature-controlled optical cell, the SV10 covers a wide range of samples, even those with low asphaltene content of <0.4%.


Beyond the ASTM D7157 standard report (S-value, So, Sa), the SV10 calculates additional values as IN (Insolubility Number) and SBN (Solubility Blending Number), as well as the estimation of stability reserve and blending potential. These values for crude oils or fuels give essential information for the assessment of their compatibility and blend stability while blended at different ratio.


The SV10 is the perfect analytical tool for refineries, blenders and traders, allowing to predict compatibility and increase efficiency of refining and blending operations.

Oil Dispersancy for OCM


Unlike measuring soot concentration and oil contamination where numerous options exist, measuring dispersancy performance is a real challenge to the oil condition monitoring analyst. Dispersancy is the property that allows the lubricant to suspend and carry away “pollutants” of diverse sources such as soot from combustion, metallic particles from wear, corrosion of mechanical parts, and insoluble products resulting from the ageing of the oil, etc.


AD Systems offers unique instrument on the market that automatically and simultaneously provides information on oil dispersancy along with contamination index (content of sooty insoluble material in lubricants). The DT100DL “Dispersancy Tester” has approved ASTM D7899 test method and is an integral part of Oil Condition Monitoring Programs for in-service lubricants.


Equipped with high resolution digital camera, the DT100DL takes images of the oil spot and the built-in software analyses it, and reports in just a few seconds quality parameters of the oil: Merit of Dispersancy (MD), Contamination Index (IC) and combined performance rating (DP).


Very easy to operate, the DT100 DL offers enhanced features for documenting, reporting and electronic archiving. Both color image (identical to what the human eye sees) and B&W image of oil spot are stored with “stamped” sample ID. Versatile communication protocol is configurable for the specific requirements of each laboratory. This dispersancy tester helps OCM experts to monitor the health of lubricant oil in service and alert when oil degradation starts to compromise the engine durability.
