Euan had the chance to go on a year-long finance placement with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
“Doing a placement is a major confidence builder. You’re placed in situations out of your comfort zone and learn how to tackle tasks head on. It opens your eyes into what industry is really like too. The university helps you find placements with employability sessions. Once you’ve selected something then you have CV workshops and mock interviews to help you prepare.”
DIVIDING TIME BETWEEN DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS
“I spent over seven months in management accounts and the rest of my time was divided between different departments. Everyone was very patient and I had assigned supervisors to show me the ropes. I learnt lots of new skills such as Advanced Excel, negotiating and data production. I was given the chance to lead in meetings too. I know that I’ll be able to speak about my experience when I’m at interviews in the future.
My experience gave me a taste of what to expect after graduation and it helped confirm my aspiration of working in finance.”
