Tips when buying shoes…
It is so important to have your child’s feet measured
by a qualified fitter.
Both feet should be measured as sometimes the feet are slightly different sizes. Remember the fitting gauge is a guide. A good fitter will use their knowledge to interpret a correct fit as there is no standardisation of shoe sizing in the UK. Try to buy footwear made from natural materials; leather or cotton etc. because man-made materials can make feet perspire which can lead to fungal infections. Look after your shoes and keep them polished; not only will they look better but they will last longer. Children’s shoes should be

checked approximately every 10-12 weeks, this does not mean that they need new shoes but children grow erratically (in fits and starts) so it’s a good idea to get a professional fitter to check. A good fitter will only sell you new shoes when they are needed. NEVER NEVER NEVER wear hand me downs in footwear as they take on the previous owners foot shape - and this is really bad news for your feet.
Monitor your child’s sock drawer and throw out outgrown socks, as socks that are too small can restrict growth.
Some foot facts… The foot is one of the most important parts of the body, but one of the most abused. While we spend vast amounts of money educating
people to eat properly and exercise regularly, little or no effort is spent on the importance of foot health. It is a proven fact that from birth to teens feet are at their most vulnerable. Experienced shoe fitters spend a lot of their time trying to make people comfortable and ease discomfort that possibly could have been avoided if shoes had been fitted properly in the first place.
Did you know? We have 26 bones in each foot and they don’t ossify (finish hardening) until the age of 18.
Did you know? Each foot has 33 joints, 19 muscles, 10 tendons and 107 ligaments.
Did you know? The skin on your feet has more than 7,000 nerve endings.
Did you know? Your feet produce an eggcup’s worth of sweat each day.
