MCS Launches New Mini ROV
Innovative service company, MCS, has launched a new mini Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to reduce cost in subsea inspection and 3D metrology for the worldwide energy industry.
The MiniSpector, which has been developed to be launched from a platform, reduces the reliance on additional vessels and equipment saving customers’ money.
CEO of MCS, Wael Bakr, said: “The MiniSpector has been designed to be easily carried and deployed and contains built-in 3D Photo Realistic Cloud (PRC) technology for precise 3D measurement. The PRC system is another key product in the MCS portfolio of technology.
“The system provides measurements subsea, up to fabrication accuracy, which makes the MiniSpector an ideal and accurate subsea metrology drone to improve overall project efficiency, duration and quality particularly in deepwater measurements.

“Example tasks the MiniSpector can deliver seamlessly include HD General Visual Inspection (GVI) and Close Video Inspection (CVI), spool metrology, platform approaches and riser installation.
“With seven horizontal and vertical thrusters the MiniSpector provides full control, increased vehicle manoeuvrability, stability, and payload capabilities to withstand higher currents than other mini ROVs on the market.
“Multi-skilling our inspection engineers to fly the MiniSpector also allows us to reduce offshore crew.
“We pride ourselves in being flexible and agile and respond to our clients’ challenges globally with the right tech.
“This new system forms part of an evolution of technologies towards a transformational programme at MCS to fully support remote digitisation, automation and machine learning as well as the efficient data management,
data gathering and evaluation of inspection asset integrity programmes.
“As an industry we know the next chapter will mean widespread and complex challenges. We must reinvent our products and services to accelerate operational efficiency and spur industry and business growth.
“Innovation is in our DNA and 30% of our staff are dedicated solely to research and development. We can develop bespoke solutions for individual clients as well as our on-going work towards ingenious new technology to satisfy the energy challenges industry wide. This year will be exciting for us as we see more new products come to market.
“One of the most exciting benefits of innovation is the opportunity to overcome obstacles together, when it might not be possible independently. Rest assured our work in creating, testing and applying new technology in response to the industry is continuing. The need to reduce cost, improve safety and protect the environment requires change.”
