which attracts busy parents with young children, as well as those nearing retirement age who do not want a full-time job.

e-Sgoil has also made it possible for those with disabilities to work again. Maclennan sings the praises of one physics teacher, Gail MacVicar. “She is an excel- lent teacher, but profoundly deaf… she lost her hearing and lost her job because she couldn’t cope in a normal classroom. We got her a headset that works on vibration, and she’s been teaching with us for the last two years.” As Covid restrictions ease, there is one question that remains unan-

swered: will children ever be able to make up for lost school time? “We have a lot of people doing

their very best to make sure that this generation of kids don’t lose hope. And I think people should stop reinforcing the message that this is a lost generation, as far as education, because it isn’t,” Ma- clennan says. “Te war generation went

through a lot worse for a lot longer. And they came through it. And they prospered after it. Today’s learners are going to do the same. Tey’re resilient. Whatever it is, they’ve lost, they will make up for because they have to. And that’s the sum total of it.” l
