Suggested time allocations are provided for each of the different skills areas that are covered in this course. These suggested times are proposed to guide the teacher in terms of lesson planning, but is merely a guideline and will depend on the needs of the particular class. If the teacher or school uses the minimum time allocation for English First Additional Language, the suggested times for each skill area need to be reduced accordingly.

Planning

A range of planning tools has been provided in Section 3 of this Teacher‟s Guide, including a plan for the year (overview) which provides easy reference to how Oxford Successful English Grade 3 covers the year‟s work. The comprehensive teaching plan in this section gives a weekly breakdown of how Oxford Successful English Grade 3 is organised. Oxford Successful English Grades 1–3 is

organised into 16 themes with four themes per term. Each theme is designed to cover either two weeks or three weeks of teaching, paced according to the NCAPS documents. Each term provides content for 10 weeks of teaching, divided into two five-week cycles as specified in the NCAPS. Each 10 weeks of teaching include opportunities for Formal Assessment as required by NCAPS.
