DESERT BLUME Golf CLUB

Desert Blume continues to offer some of the most scenic holes in southeastern Alberta which allows the course to claim it is “Medicine Hat’s premier golf club.” The Seven Persons Creek continues to flow through the 18-hole course which has come through the winter well.

Trevor Ellerman is back for a second year as general manager and he says the Blume is gearing up for another busy golf season. There hasn’t been a lot of changes to the course this season, but Ellerman adds they are offering a five-day weekday membership for the first time.

“It’s totally different for us. We’ve never offered anything like this in the past,” he said. “We’re looking forward to offering that and kind of picking up some people that have the ability to play Monday to Friday and help us fill up the tee sheet a little bit during the week. We’re pretty excited about that.”

The new weekday membership costs $2,095

plus tax, while the club’s trial membership, which allows golfers to hit the fairways seven days a week is priced at $2,595 plus tax.

Green fees at Desert Blume have increased a bit this year. Golfers will be charged $85 on the weekend for 18 holes, a golf cart and some time to warm up at the driving range. Players will pay $80 for the same package during the week.

Ellerman says the course was busy last season due to COVID and early numbers indicate this year will be no different. The Blume’s Tuesday night ladies league is already at last year’s capacity and Ellerman adds they are following public health guidelines and are waiting to see if they can add more members to the league.

The men’s league on Wednesday nights is also filling up and the course is considering adding another men’s league on Monday nights in the future.

“We’ve had various members and guests approach us in regard to having another day. So, we’re definitely looking into it and it’s just a matter of the logistics of being able to put something together in these times that are a little bit uncertain … it’s definitely on our radar,” said Ellerman.

Over the winter, the course purchased a golf simulator and Ellerman says it was well used and well received by members. The simulator will wrap up for the 2021 season in early April, but Ellerman says they hope to have a permanent spot for the simulator soon.
