COTTONWOOD COULEE Golf Course

Cottonwood Coulee is a course for everyone.

The 18 holes span just over 4,500 yards, which means it’s a shorter course and perfect for players of any age and any skill level.

Membership prices remain the same as 2020, but Mac Baker, general manager and one of the course’s owners, says this is the first year they will not be offering a junior membership option. Instead, junior golfers can register for the Youth on Course program at the Cottonwood Coulee pro shop for $50. The program gives golfers under 18 years old a more affordable way to golf with nine holes costing $3 and 18 holes costing $5 a round.

“It makes it super affordable and it’s an easy way for families to get their kids involved with golf,” said Baker. “… as a kid, I grew up playing golf at a smaller golf course and that’s where I became hooked

on the game. I think it’s a great option for kids to get out in a less intimidating atmosphere.”

This is the third year the course has used the program and Baker says they’ve had more kids sign up already this year. The Youth on Course program also gives young golfers access to over 20 different courses throughout Alberta.

League nights are still every Monday (couples league), Tuesday (women’s league) and Thursday (men’s league).

“The biggest thing with our leagues is they are very casual, very laid back and not super competitive,” said Baker. “We like to get out, have fun and we often changeup who you golf with. It’s a good time.”

The course isn’t sure if they will be able to have tournaments this season and some early ones have already been cancelled. The

Cottonwood Classic was cancelled last year for the first time in the course’s existence and Baker said it’s scheduled for July 9-10 this year but is dependent on the provincial COVID-19 restrictions at the time.

Jenny Garcia is back as clubhouse manager, but this year she is also overseeing pro shop operations. Leslie Corrins has been in charge of the pro shop over the last number of years. She is taking a step back, but she will continue to help out in the pro shop.
