EUROPE & MIDDLE EAST EDITOR’S COMMENT I

n anticipation that the Covid-19 pandemic will be in retreat by the Autumn, RAI Amsterdam has announced the parameters for METSTRADE 2021, which is scheduled to take place in the city from

16-18 November. The main goal of RAI Amsterdam and its partner,

ICOMIA, for this pre-eminent show will be to host a safe and successful in-person event and, with over 1,100 exhibitors already signed-up, preparations are well under way for METSTRADE 2021. RAI Amsterdam has undertaken careful planning for different scenarios and will be deploying its robust and comprehensive protocol to enable a safe and comfortable return to in-person meetings. Director Niels Klarenbeek reports that it has been

encouraging to witness the drive and enthusiasm among exhibitors, partners and potential visitors to ensure the show returns this year. He comments that the leisure boating sector has withstood the pandemic storm well as people have embraced the outdoor lifestyle. He adds that although there has been an exceptionally positive vibe from across the industry, there have been unprecedented distribution challenges. There is, therefore, no doubt that leisure marine professionals will be eager to gather at METSTRADE this November to meet, do business and to overcome certain obstacles in their supply chains.

Front cover: The 745-berth Alcudiamar in Mallorca has maintained a well-deserved reputation for consistently high standards of service. It provides a safe haven for sporting, recreational and fishing boats in a bay protected from strong winds by the marina’s proximity to the Serra de Tramuntana mountains (see pages 18-19).

MARINA INDUSTRY • APRIL 2021 Klarenbeek and his team recognise there may

still be challenges with international travel from certain countries, so the show will be complemented by a digital package from the RAI studios, which will include a strong online METSTRADE Connect programme, with awards ceremonies, pitches, panel discussions and networking options. METSTRADE has also put in place plans to

address multiple scenarios that may arise. The 2021 edition will feature a new layout applicable only to this year’s show. This has involved an adjustment to the floor plan, so that the complete event can take place in Halls 1-7 and the Elycium building of the RAI Convention Centre. Reflecting the confirmed sign-up of exhibitors and accommodating 80% of the net exhibition space at the record-breaking show held in 2019, the result will be a secure, easy-to- navigate B2B trade show. There will be a one-off specific exception to the

show’s renowned manufacturer-only policy to allow non-European manufacturers to have stands manned by their authorised European distributors and/or representatives. More details on this policy can be obtained from the organiser’s website: www. metstrade.com
