CHA R I T Y NEWS BRAVING THE SHAVE FOR HOSPICE FUNDS

Three Worcestershire ladies have recently lopped their locks to raise vital funds for the county’s hospice St Richards.
Twenty-year-old Charlotte Albutt has shaved off her shoulder- length hair to raise funds for the Worcestershire hospice which cared for her best friend’s family.
Charlotte removed her hair in memory of Tracey Henn, who died in July 2019, aged 53. Mrs Henn was cared for by St Richard’s Hospice which also supported husband Darron and daughter Maddie; Miss Albutt’s best friend.
The second year Multimedia Journalism Student, from Droitwich Spa, says she wants to give something back to those who cared for Tracey, and has helped Maddie. With everyone currently staying home in lockdown, Miss Albutt decided a head shave was the perfect socially-distant fundraising challenge!
“I realised that, even stuck at home, I could make a difference and I could still find a way to raise some money to help. So, I set up a charity head shave with a fundraising target of £500 – and within 24 hours I’d smashed that target. So far, I’ve raised more than £1,700!” Charlotte has also donated her hair to charity.
Tricia Cavell, Fundraising Director at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We’re always amazed by the fundraising challenges that supporters take on for our care and Charlotte shaving off all her beautiful hair is no exception!
“Her original fundraising target of £500 could fund 21 hour sessions with specialist physio and therapists to help patients manage pain at home. She has more than tripled that target!”

And a mother and daughter from Worcester have also shaved their heads to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.
Sheena MacKenzie and daughter Asher MacKenzie-Wilson, aged 12, are fundraising in memory of Ms MacKenzie’s former partner Rob Furness, also known as Ernie, also cared for by St Richard’s in 2001.
It was Asher’s idea to take on the bold fundraising challenge, something they say has really cheered the family in lockdown. Ms MacKenzie said: “Although Asher never met Ernie, she’s aware that loving and losing him, long before she was born, changed the course of my life.
“Shaving our heads for St Richard’s is another way of us giving back, helping support care for patients and their loved ones when they need it. So far we’ve raised more than £1500 which is an absolutely fantastic amount.”
Asher MacKenzie-Wilson added: “We set up a Just Giving page to fundraise and it’s been brilliant watching the donations come in while we’re stuck at home learning online.
“Shaving our heads together was a lot of fun and is something we’ll never forget.”
Speaking about the brave pair’s charity challenge, Tricia Cavell said: "It's a wonderful, selfless act by Sheena and Ash and we're incredibly grateful for their support.
“They've stepped up to help when our fundraising income has taken a real hit from the pandemic and we want to say a huge thank you!"
