Intercity to support Google rollout of security services
Internet giant Google has chosen Birmingham-based Intercity Technology as one of several early access reseller partners, who will support the roll out of a highly anticipated Android security service for small and medium sized firms. Intercity will work exclusively
with Google to offer the Android Enterprise Essentials service to businesses across the UK, which they say will provide greater levels of protection for mobile devices and data for those working remotely. Currently, only 15 per cent of
devices sold globally to businesses each year are managed by an Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) security system. As a result, Intercity says,
businesses often lack protection, opening firms up to costly and time-consuming threats like theft, phishing attacks and viruses. As well as the enhanced security benefits, Android Enterprise Essentials is applied automatically, eliminating the need to manually install the software on each device. Therefore, businesses that
choose to purchase the Android device from a reseller will be able to ship them directly to employees with policies already in place. Chief executive officer of
Andrew Jackson: Android service will help smaller firms
Intercity Technology, Andrew Jackson, said: “Mobile computing is becoming increasingly important to our future. “People expect to be able to
access business-critical data and apps on their mobiles, at any time and in any location – a trend which has been rapidly accelerated by Covid-19. “Whilst mobile and remote
working has proven to support productivity in the short-term, we have also seen a significant increase in security breaches which have left businesses more vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

IT expert comes out of retirement
IT veteran Phil Jones (pictured) has re-joined Birmingham-based Kalamazoo IT, after a brief spell in retirement. With 18 years’ experience in
client support management and marketing account management, as well as a decade in service delivery, Phil, now as business manager, will be helping Kalamazoo deliver IT services to a diverse group of industries and markets, including financial, education, healthcare, legal, media and insurance sectors. He said: “I re-joined Kalamazoo IT
after a brief time in retirement. Up to this point, I had an uncomfortable sense of ‘playing truant’ from the workplace in so much that my decision to retire had been too premature. In short, I missed delivering customer satisfaction and getting a buzz from being instrumental in IT service delivery. “Kalamazoo IT is well-positioned
to deliver a well-honed service to both local and nationally distributed companies via its network of talented home-based field engineering staff. Being in tune with your customers IT needs is of paramount importance.” The firm provides a range of IT

a speaker and coach for this year’s programme. Steve Leith (pictured), head of tech and high growth at Cooper Parry, which are based at Blythe Valley Business park in Solihull, said: “Having already raised over £275m of external capital, these companies are growing fast. They need advisers who can help them
understand, anticipate and overcome the challenges
of rapid growth and fundraising. And more than anything, they need speed, experience, and a mindset to match theirs. “That’s why it was a no-brainer
of 33 promising technology scale- ups across the UK. Previous Upscale alumni include Monzo Bank founder Tom Blomfield, who is now
to partner with Upscale, and our Tech and High Growth team will offer that support, adding perspective and value to these businesses.”
A workforce management firm are on a “national crusade” to make timesheets digital. RotaHub, a Worcestershire-based workforce management firm, are
helping businesses improve their efficiency through automating routine administrative tasks like timesheets and annual leave requests. This has been aided by a digital cartoon character known as TIM,
the digital timesheet. TIM acts as an automated programmer, within the software, who
collates and processes data and provides live, real-time information for managers to view, challenge, edit, approve and authorise. Utilising the equipment that staff already have, the automation can
be provided using traditional SMS messaging or via smartphone apps. The information is then summarised to be presented for payroll and
accounts teams to process. Sean Harris, operations director at RotaHub, said: “There is lots of
software out there, but we are the only company in the UK that provides a total end-to-end solution, managing all elements 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.” One of RotaHub’s customers said: “Utilising the managed service
from RotaHub, we have redeployed two staff from our admin team to carry out alternative duties, saving us real time and real wages.”
