WHAT DOES YOUR ORGANISATION DO? Website and graphic design.
HOW DID IT ALL START? My daughter got diagnosed with a rare brain condition, Chiari malformation and needed brain surgery urgently. So she could recover from home, I gave up my college course and became self- employed as I’d been working with WordPress since 2003.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR? Giving back to Home Start Kettering. My brother has severe disabilities and Home Start in Coalville supported my family as I was growing up. Now owning my own business, I’ve been able to give back to them and help them with a website and graphic design.
WHAT HAS SURPRISED YOU MOST IN YOUR JOB? How many people have been burnt in the past by poor website designers. I didn’t realise how many people have had a bad experience. A lot of our testimonials start with ‘I’d been poorly treated but then found Poppy…’

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST RISK YOU’VE EVER TAKEN – AND DID IT WORK? Going on stage to talk about branding when I hate public speaking. Thankfully when I talk about what I love, I was able to forget the people watching me!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING OUT?
Someone very close to me now, who I met five years ago at my first networking event before I even understood what a business network was, told me that people do business with people. That’s so true, always be yourself and you’ll never need to sell as they will buy into you as a person.
WHICH BUSINESS PERSON DO YOU MOST ADMIRE? Becky Adams. She became a mentor to me and a friend. She taught me to believe in myself and helped me grow my business and not put my own hang-ups in the way of growing.
WHAT EXCITING PROJECTS IS YOUR ORGANISATION WORKING ON? We’re delighted to be working with The Recovery Through Enterprise programme led by East Northants and Borough Council of Wellingborough on their new website design.
WHAT MADE YOUR ORGANISATION JOIN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE CHAMBER? The Chamber’s Sunny Singh came to a Kettering Business Network meeting which I help run with Simon Cox and gave a talk about the benefits of being a member and showed us how the Chamber supports businesses and how they could help Poppy Design Studio.
