FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR EVENT

The University of Northampton took its latest annual Women into STEAM event online for the first time so it could continue to showcase the career opportunities available to women within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The event, which was organised

by the University of Northampton and funded through Aspire Higher, was aimed at girls aged between 11 and 16 and attracted more than 1,000 students. It featured an impressive list of speakers, including world-famous

TV scientist Dr Emily Grossman and businesses from a variety of sectors. Working with global content

agency Clearhead, the event was streamed on YouTube over five hours and featured pre-recorded content, live Q&As with presenters and businesses and engaging videos. Linda Davis-Sinclair, engagement

lead and STEM ambassador at the University of Northampton, said: “The university has a long history of providing face-to-face STEAM events for young people and we work collaboratively with Aspire Higher to raise aspirations of

children from Year 6 upwards. “Over 1,000 students from 36

schools in Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire registered for the event and the feedback was fantastic. Teachers enjoyed that students could access real-life careers information and pupils liked learning about the variety of work scientists do and how there are multiple ways of solving problems.”

ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF DATA

Data and insights consulting firm Sales Growth Consulting is excited to share news of enhancements to its research services. Sales Growth Consulting helps

SMEs by providing independent market and competitor landscape data that supports business planning, decision-making and crucial funding requests. By partnering with a Research-

as-a-Service (RaaS) platform, with more than 5,000 registered experts globally, including PhDs, consultants and industry veterans, the firm will be able to compile relevant data to answer business critical questions faster. The firm says this will yield enhanced data quality, delivery

lead times that are faster by up to 50% and client fees which are lower by as much as 30%. Managing director Victor Chauhan

said: “Previously, compiling such detailed and meaningful data like this was labour-intensive and time- consuming. Now we’re able to enhance the quality of our research by leveraging these experts, reduce our lead times and offer lower fees; it’s a huge win for our clients.” To celebrate the launch of its new

partnership, Sales Growth Consulting is offering fellow Chamber members 10% off the total fee for any research project commissioned before 31 March 2021.

OPEN PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT

After a successful first year in business, Competitive Edge is bringing to market a new and innovative Open Programme to further enhance one of their core offerings - Management & Leadership Development. Having worked successfully

with clients, taking internal cohorts of managers through their development programmes, Competitive Edge is now opening the programme out to enable SME businesses to develop their managers and leaders. Learning alongside people

from multi-sector organisations, the Open Programme offers four experiential learning modules over a 12-month period, delivered in three-day residential blocks. Learners then return to their respective businesses with ongoing coaching and support, which is critical to the transfer of learning. Despite the changing Covid-19 restrictions, the residential course is fully health and safety compliant. Director Ian Wearne

(pictured) said: “There’s often an expectation that a high- performer can somehow make a seamless transition into management, or that existing managers and leaders have a full grasp of their responsibilities. But how well prepared are these people, and what are the implications on a business, if critical competencies and behaviours aren’t fully developed and applied?” The Open Programme

commences on 12 May, with the first module entitled ‘The self-aware leader – manager’.
