Inside ICI We Are Stronger When We Stand Together By Joseph E. Fritz, Executive Director, Investment Casting Institute W
ith another year behind us, it is time that we take a moment to look back on the prior year and assess our accomplishments and shortcomings, but 2020
was not just “another year”. In fact, I believe it was a year that none of us will ever forget. Between the pandemic, civil unrest and political divide, 2020 is one for the record books. The pandemic drove the cancellation of nearly every revenue generating event that the ICI had planned. So, like the rest of the industry, the ICI and INCAST Corporation’s revenue streams took a big hit. In spite of what happened around us, we did not lose sight of our commitment to provide the industry with developmental opportunities. Going into the year, our plan was to offer four webinars on business related topics. With the cancellation of the 2020 Business and Learning Development Conference, we opted to enhance the webinar program and ultimately produced 13 hour-long presentations, many of which were presented by past and future ICI keynote speakers. With the postponement of the World Conference on Investment Casting, our responsibility to provide a technical

offering was challenged, and with three months to prepare, we conducted a virtual Technical Conference and Expo. This proved to be more of a learning experience for us than it was for our delegates, as the shortcomings of the event were used to create the criteria for our future virtual platform. Regardless of the challenges with which we were faced, one thing held true. Our Members stood by us, as we stood by them. This was evidenced by those Members who attended the webinars and the virtual event and by those who continued to advertise in INCAST Magazine and sponsor the newsletter. The most telling sign was evidenced when we tallied final 2020 Membership numbers for our annual audit and budget review. Though we had expected a decline in ICI Membership, it actually grew to 274 companies in 2020. We don’t yet know what 2021 brings, but we are hopeful
that working together, it will be a better year for all of us. To our Members, I offer my heartfelt thanks for your ongoing support. The industry is stronger when we stand together and you have my personal assurance that the ICI will always stand by you.
