Awards
some return to normality took place with domestic and international holidays back on track, and pubs, restaurants and other leisure facilities reopening. There were still hopes that the traditional BIFA Awards ceremony luncheon would be able to go ahead, but as the days began to shorten and the second lockdown was introduced it became clear that this was no longer possible and thoughts switched to an alternative. Working with AV Projections, the regular provider of audio-
visual support at the Awards ceremony, BIFA produced a quartet of videos featuring the finalists and announcing the winner of each category. These were released Monday 25 to Thursday 28 January, with each video featuring two or three Award categories. If you have not yet viewed the videos, please do so at
www.bifa.org/awards Before detailing the outcome of the competition, BIFA would
like to recognise the support and contribution of the sponsors to the running of the competition this year. Representatives from the category sponsors have given their time to carry out judging and the selection of winners for each award.
Winner announcements Monday 25 January saw the first video release showcasing the finalists in the Air Cargo Services and Ocean Services Awards. The winners and other finalists were: Air Cargo Services Award – sponsored by ASM UK Winner: Simarco Worldwide Logistics In announcing Simarco Worldwide Logistics as the winner of the Air Cargo Services Award 2020, Sharon Greer of ASM UK commented: “The quality of entries in this category was very high and choosing a winner was a difficult task. The demonstration of new and innovative ways in which businesses are engaging with their customers, and developing their products and services, is very impressive. It is great to see pioneering work taking place across the sector in the UK. Working with a healthcare products supplier, Simarco Worldwide Logistics reacted to a significant change in its customer’s requirements resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Simarco was tasked by its customer to handle increased quantities and reduce lead times for shipments from manufacture in Portugal and China to distribution centres in the USA. By the end of September 2020, close to 500 tonnes of cargo had been shipped by air under DDP terms.” Finalists • DHL Global Forwarding • Kerry Logistics • Ligentia Global
Ocean Services Award – sponsored by Port Express Winner: Atlantic Pacific Global Logistics The judges felt that Atlantic Pacific’s entry demonstrated in- depth ocean freight knowledge, along with excellent planning and coordination skills, to deliver a complete ocean freight service on time and on budget. From the coordination of multiple vendors overseas, to
working around the on-site restrictions for deliveries, Atlantic Pacific showcased the skill set needs for a modern-day ocean freight forwarder. The green credentials of the entry were also much appreciated by the judges.
