Fugro Boosts Remote Operations With New Centre in the Middle East

Fugro has opened a new state-of-the- art remote operations centre (ROC) in Abu Dhabi, which is already delivering successful remote and autonomous solutions to clients in the Middle East and India (MEI) region. The new ROC in Abu Dhabi is the latest addition to Fugro’s global network of ROCs, which now consists of eight centres operating across all four regions.

By combining the ROC’s capabilities with their new uncrewed surface vessel (USV) operations, Fugro’s teams can perform offshore work from onshore, allowing projects to be delivered faster, more safely and with lower carbon footprints. The opening of the ROC in Abu Dhabi was well timed, as client projects became subject to local travel and personnel restrictions implemented in response to the pandemic. Fugro is deploying remote solutions in the Middle East to circumvent social distancing measures and allow vital marine site characterisation and asset integrity projects such as rig positioning to stay on schedule.

David Washbrook, Fugro’s Director for Marine Asset Integrity in the Middle East and India, said: “Successfully conducting these remote and autonomous operations from our new ROC in Abu Dhabi is a huge step that is truly advancing marine operations. Our remote solutions allow our clients to upgrade working processes that have been the same for decades and, as a result, derisk their projects, improve safety, optimise maintenance programmes and extend operational life of their assets.”

Guardian Fall Protection Unveils Leading-Edge Cable Lanyard

Norco Group Ltd Are Proud to Announce a New Maintenance Contract With Total E&P Angola

Pure Safety Group’s Guardian® Fall Protection brand has introduced a new cable lanyard, compatible for leading edges, that combines the lightweight durability of a fixed- length lanyard that permits up to 12 feet of fall protection during the event of a free fall from an at-height working surface.

Through extensive research and development in Guardian’s ISO/ IEC:10725-compliant laboratory, the company established rigorous leading-edge verification testing procedures to ensure consistent performance of the lanyard over a wide range of extreme conditions. Drop-tested in both a perpendicular and offset orientation against .005" radius steel, the Guardian Cable Leading Edge Lanyard exhibited high performance and predictability – two characteristics that are mandatory when it comes to fall protection. The Cable Leading Edge Lanyards feature a vinyl-coated 1/4 inch galvanized steel cable, combined with Guardian’s proprietary high-efficiency external shock absorber that keeps maximum and average arrest forces low during fall deceleration. Cable Leading Edge Lanyards are available in single- or dual-leg configurations with steel rebar or snap hooks. A high-visibility orange shock pack cover helps confirm proper application suitability, even from a distance.

An established energy storage equipment manufacturer and service provider, Norco Group will support Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and standby battery equipment on TEP Angola’s assets in offshore Block 17. This includes the Dalia, Girassol, Pazflor and CLOV Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facilities (FPSOs)

Running for three years with an optional two-year extension, the contact will see Norco provide preventative maintenance as well as emergency fault response. This latest award comes on the back of similar agreements with major operators in Ghana and Equatorial Guinea, and will run alongside an existing contract with Total E&P UK Ltd.

“It’s a testament to the work of the International Development team as well as the engineers who have serviced the contract with Total in the UK that we’ve been also now selected to work with them in Angola. I’m sure there will be logistics challenges in the current climate but we’re looking forward to proving we’re up to the task.” Said John Roy, Director.
