Without sounding too dramatic also, do you think this time might be forever? In my relationship?

Yes. Oh no that’s not dramatic, I think that’s hopeful. Being realistic, we can only just take each day as it comes. I’ve found someone who I really have a great connection with and a great time together.

And you have probably spent a lot of time together in the last few months? Yeah, yeah.

You have called this a grown-up disco record - how grown-up do you feel yourself having been in the entertainment business most of your life but you also have this youthful freshness to your music. How do you juggle that? Good question. I think I called it grown-up disco before I’d really made the album. I was trying to think ahead of what it might be. But yeah, I’m 52 years old and how do I fit into the music industry? I still want to be able to make dance music so I guess that’s where my mind was, calling it grown-up disco, but it’s not limited to grown-ups.

What is the story of Say Something? I haven’t found a succinct way to describe it yet. For me, it’s about the eternal quest for love and not specifically a relationship love but just love for love’s sake, how we are all different but that is pretty much a common desire or need and a longing and it is endless. And I was so glad that the landscape for the video was just galactic because that’s how I feel about love – where does it begin? Where does it end? Your family love, your romantic love,

your love for life. And yeah, so it’s a little bit cosmic in my mind but you have to root it in something.

Would it be over-interpreting that song if we include world politics? Not really, we did think about that as well, especially this year there’s so much going on. There’s some of that. It’s not written from a political point of view but definitely a bit of what we’re all going through.

And you are riding a cosmic horse in the video, which looked fun? Yeah, that was kind of, not a happy mistake, it was meant to be a different horse and then two days before we filmed the video, my director calls me and says, ‘There’s a problem with the horse, it needs six people to move it and we don’t have six people. ’ So yeah, the day before the video, the horse was changed and it was always meant to be that horse because he is resplendent in that video. I love him.

What are you up to next? Anything magical? Let’s hope anything can happen that’s better for all of us from here on.

What is next? Obviously, I can’t put the wheels in motion for a tour at this stage. Let’s see as and when that might be possible. So for now it’s doing promo for the album, trying to connect with people and get the music out there and be grateful for what we can do, not what we can’t do. As I say, there’s stories left, right and centre of people who do not have these opportunities and I am very, very conscious of that and grateful.
