CivTech has challenges. Tese people have answers

Meet the teams bidding to improve digital services at Demo Week 5.0

BY KEVIN O’SULLIVAN

The national innovation programme for building better digital public services is look- ing forward to its fifth annual showcase. CivTech, the Scottish

Government’s accelerator for small businesses bringing their tech solutions to the public sector, will host Demo Week 5.0 online between 2-4 February, 2021.

Eleven teams will demon-

strate their solutions to an audience seeking answers to similar problems, which span a range of public bodies. Over the last seven weeks,

CivTech has been working with the chosen teams and challenge sponsors, which include Transport Scotland, NHS Scotland, Nature Scot, HITRANS, Connecting Scotland and Forestry and Land Scotland. Each team was given an initial contract of £25,000 to take on their challenge. Te companies were asked to

consider a variety of challenges including how technology can assist farmers to improve the environment, the future of

online learning post-Covid and reducing virus transmission in care settings.

Ben Macpherson, minister for public finance, said: “Following the successful accelerator day one event, I am looking forward to seeing how the 11 teams have progressed over the last seven weeks. Te challenges they are working on will provide ground-breaking responses to some of the most important issues we face as a nation, including how we respond to the climate crisis and build a wellbeing economy.” Mark Elliott, programme

director at CivTech, said: “As Demo Week 5.0 approaches, we know the teams have been

working round the clock to ensure they develop solutions that not only work brilliantly, but also capture imaginations across the public sector. “It’s a very difficult, yet

rewarding, process and we’re immensely excited to see how these teams have adapted and grown and what responses they bring to the table for the chal- lenges at hand.” CivTech’s Demo Week 5.0

will be supported by Amazon Web Services as headline spon- sor, while Harvey Nash and Sopra Steria will be sponsoring the themed days throughout the week. l
